Straley's speaker wires resemble Twizzler's licorice - bright red with the twists... They sound exceptional however - very open, detailed ...

I have some comments.  I have been running Greggs cables for about a week now.  I had been planning a cable upgrade and decided to do some research here and at AA to decide what cables to purchase.  I was set on some JR 85929's untill I found these.

Greg has been great answering emails and providing additional insight into this hobby of ours.  I prefer to do business with people that are known and respected and I think it's safe to say that Greg can be added to that list.

Anyways, these cables rock.  They do what they are supposed to and were a considerable upgrade over what I was using, which was Carol Commnand SC and homemade 85929 IC's.  I did a little experimentation and found that my old IC's were adding bass.  Also discovered that my PE bannana ends were putting a veil on the highs.  After getting that far, I just tossed in the Straley speaker cables and havent wanted to do any more comparisons.

So to summarize, buy 'em they work.

I would also like to thank Marbles and Ehider 2 guys who's opinon I respect.  Reading their reviews defenitly helped tip me towards Greggs product.   (btw. has anyone seen Tyson?)

    Hope that helps.

This concisely sums up how I feel! :)

Gregg's cables are here to stay... well, I have let a friend borrow them so they can enjoy these excellent cables first hand... but they'll be back before too long. ;)

Looks like I won't get to hear a pair of the speaker cables till after RMAF.

While I am disappointed with having to wait, I must say that Gregg has been great at communicating with me via e-mail and phone.

Keeping me updated is much appreciated and shows that Gregg cares not only about his customers, but also about potential future customers.

      Synergy with VMPS Rm40s?
I've read this thread with great interest because I'm starting to think about upgrading my speaker cables. i'm currently using Audience Conductor to the "bass inputs" of my RM40s, and a Bolder Cables Nitro bridge with Bybees to the mid/tweeter connections. Given comments here on AC about using either RSA or Bolder Nitro as ideal speaker cables for the RM40S, should i add Gregg's cables to my list for consideration? All the descriptions here make me think so.

      Thanks.

I can't comment on the Bolder Nitro cables, but when I had my RM 40's, I thought the RSA Poiema!, Sonoran Desert Plateau, and TG Audio HSR all outpefromed the Audience at a cheaper or equal price (YMMV) in my system.

      Zybar,

I'm sure there are several brands of cables which will out-perform my Audience Conductor speaker wires on my RM-40s, I bought the Audience cable before I bought the VMPS speakers.

To me the RSA and Bolder cables are "expensive", and i have not checked on the price of Gregg's cables, but price isn't what i care about just yet, I'm trying to make a short list of cables to consider. Given what you hear with the Reality cables, and your experience with the RM40s, do you think they could be a good match?

BTW, remember I have Audience Conductor speaker cables, this is the bottom of the Audience line, so no matter which cable I decide on, I know it's going to cost more than what i paid for them.

Sorry about missing the fact that you had the lower end Audience cable.

I haven't heard Gregg's cables yet.  I should be coming back from RMAF with a pair or two to try in my system.

While no cable will be a perfect match for each system and person, the fact that Gregg is getting such positive feedback is a good sign that he has a quality product worth keeping on your list.

I think Gregg's cables are $240 for an 8' pair.  I had the Audience Conductor about a year ago... then tried the Maestro... and have heard the Au24's... I've also been using the Audience Conductor IC's for over a year.  I like the Audience 'house sound' because it's very natural and doesn't 'sound like a cable'... Anyway, the Straley's are better than anything I've heard so they bested the Audience line.  However, I couldn't direct-compare the Audience speaker cable to the Straley's, just the IC's.

I have no hesitation recommending that you put Gregg's cables on your short list.  When I compared Gregg's IC's to the Audience, there was more extension and better imaging.  With the SC's, when compared to the Tara's they were more refined, less congested, and had much better imaging depth.  Compared to the Speltz anti-cables, they had less harshness and sounded more refined... and the instrument separation was much better.

I will be trying Gregg's cables in a few weeks. But I am concerned they are not shielded. I had lots of noise problems before I went to the JPS cables a few years ago.. I have moved since then, but am still concerned about the potential for noise again. Will also be auditioning the NuForce, CIA and DIY amps after the cables are broken in. Any comments about this would be appreciated.
