Well, it's been a while since I've posted upcoming concerts that might be of interest to you guys. If you haven't been surfing the local venues, watching whos coming, you may want to take a quick look because there is some great groups and serious legends that will be here over the next few months.

Just to tease you a bit, next month Kirch and I (accompanied by our lovely wives) are going to see The Pat Metheny Trio (quartet actually) at Touhill. We got front row, dead center seats in the first balcony. Pat along with Christian McBride (bass) and Antonio Sanchez (drums) is adding saxaphone artist extrodinare David Sanchez.

Get this! Nov 30th to Dec 3rd sax legend Lou Donaldson is going to be playing at the Bistro. Accompanying him on the Hammond B3 will be fellow legend Lonnie Smith. I think I may have to get tickets to this one.

Heck, the Savvis Center even has Nine Inch Nails in October and The Stones in January!

Anyway, get your tickets while you can. With the quality of acts that are coming through town, all the good seats are going to get snatched up quick!

If any of the concerts interest anybody, be sure to post it here. Who knows, maybe we can get a few of the guys to go at the same time.

Oh, and you musicians out there (Blackmore, Willie, Adrian), be sure to let us know when your upcoming gigs are and we can come make fun of you xxxx I mean help support your ensambles

Geez, I'm jealous of you for being able to go to the Lou Donaldson show.
And Lonnie Smith with him?  WOW!

I tried to find tour info and it doesn't look like he's coming anywhere near Houston.   :(    Buncha shows in NYC though.  Might have to make it a weekend in the city.

I did find some good shows coming up locally that I want to see, after looking for the Lou D show - so thanks for the inspiration Scott

Hiya Brad,

As much as I love my systems, I love live music even more. We thouroughly enjoy going to see our favorite arists. Its a great way to help support them and make sure that they keep making great records for years to come.

Hey Bryan, if you guys decide to go, maybe we could all meet for dinner at Guuuhhhh (I can't remember the name), that Greek place just East of Hanley on Natural Bridge. It's just down the block from Touhill.

Hey Kirch, whattia tink?

OK, heres one that I never dreamed would happen....

As you guys know, I've told everybody about Wildwood Springs Lodge out near Steelville (south of Cuba). Back in March or April, Bob (the owner) and I were talking. He had sent me the upcoming fall concert list and he asked me what I thought about the lineup. After looking at it, I said "Ya know who would fit right in to your line up?..... Yesse Colin Young."

Well guess whos coming to Wildwood on Thursday October 27th?

Now I can't take credit for Jesse coming to wildwood because Bob said that he had tried to make contact with his agency but its a pretty cool coincidence none the less.

If you remember, Wildwood sells between 150 and 200 tickets. They have the concerts right in the (large) lobby of this vintage 1920's hotel. There are only about 10 rows of seating set up. The musicians typically hang out afterwards and talk to the concert-goers, sign autographs and generally act like normal people.

Tickets are $39 (general admission). Considering the limited number sold and the extremely intimate confines of Wildwood, its not too bad.

I'll be getting my tickets in about an hour. Anybody else want to go? We can meet at my house and I'll drive (its about 45 min further out).

Concert Season Heating Up - My Morning Jacket
« Reply #10 on: 14 Nov 2005, 03:57 am »
Here is a band I'm really excited about- My Morning Jacket will be in town Tuesday, November 22nd at Mississippi Nights.  The tickets are $15 in advance and I've been trying to rally my friends to see what I believe is a great band.  Anyway, here is some info. if anyone would like to check them out.  Please let me know if you are interested.

NPR still has the concert from Oct. 10th online if you would like to check them out- the first song is about 2 1/2 minutes in.  Also, here is a few reviews of their work:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1431768
http://www.npr.org/dmg/dmg.php?mediaURL=/asc/live/20051010_asc_mmj&mediaType=RM

from the Village Voice: It Still Moves is the band's third album. Jim James's Neil Young-ish voice is still whiny and far away, but it seems like the box he's buried in is just six feet underground now instead of 20 like before. The songs are still structured with minimal vocals and long repetitive jams, but they seem more crafted this time, not just meandering soundscapes. And the rhythm section continues to be thumpy and really splashy—which is maybe what keeps it all from turning into black-light lava-lamp rec-room music. Smush Wayne Coyne's drift and diddle with the hairy mystery of ZZ Top before they did car commercials, and you've got a band that makes Yankee music snobs salivate and displaced Southerners long for the comfort of a bass boat, a lake, a dog, and a sunset.

More info.
Here's an album that begs for vinyl, although not for the reason you might think. Certainly, My Morning Jacket's worn-in rock 'n' roll-- its starchy guitar riffs and Jim James' other-end-of-a-long-tunnel vocals-- seems tailor-made for the intimate crackle of a dusty turntable.

                             Thanks for reading,
                                                         MerRev

Wow, I feel really badly. My name was mentioned and I haven't been here in so long. Sorry about that. I just finished a couple of hard months performing 8 shows a week at the Rep("A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum") and the Fox Theater("Wicked"). There are X-mas concerts coming up. I think Tim is going to post about a concert I'm playing on the 18th at Manchester Methodist Church. Also, I'm at Powell Symphony Hall for the Candlelight Concert of the Bach Society on Dec. 21 at 7:30pm. More details later...

the concert at the Manchester Methodist Church is a must if you can make it. Their choir is awesome. Adrian puts on a great show there.
