Sharp 1-bit SD-EX200 "Fan Lock" auto-shutdown prob
« on: 20 Aug 2005, 06:33 pm »
I've just acquired a Sharp SD-EX200 system with a 1-bit digital amplifier, that, according to specs, can drive 4-ohm loads at 100W rms per channel at 2% THD. It has a volume setting that goes from 0 to 40.

However, when I play the system at moderately loud levels (27+), the system could very occasionally auto-shutdown with a "Fan Lock" error on the display. There doesn't appear to be any harm done - I just turn the unit back on and it works again.

I'm just wondering if my unit is faulty. Has anyone else with similar Sharp 1-bit units (e.g. SD-EX111) experienced this problem (or not)? Would really appreciate any comments on this.

I'm using the system with my own speakers - bookshelf speakers I'm guessing are rated around 6 ohms, and magnepan MMGs rated at  4 ohms. The auto-shutdown can happen with either set of speakers.

BTW, the system sounds great!

Thanks in advance.
