New Universal Player w/Digital Bass Management
« on: 14 Apr 2003, 09:07 am »
I just saw some ink on the new Denon universal player; the thing is supposed to incorporate bass management for SACD & DVD-A, all in the digital domain.  D'oh!  I've only had my Pioneer Elite universal player for five or six month! :o

I'm gonna have to check this out;  when Ultimate gets one I'll have to look it over.  All digital bass management would make life easier, for sure.  And I'm a huge fan of Denon stuff in general.

Rob,

I am hopeful for the Denon as well.  Looks to smoke the standing players.  I hope that it will be free of any video bugs.  It is suppose to use good burr brown dacs so it looks like their will be a lot of potential.  If indeed it lives up to expectations and its video performance is top notch I will probably get it to replace my Panny RP91.

If only the Denon had a DVI output...

Apparently the engineers have based teh unit after the Secrets tests, so it should pass them all.

BTW, Josk, when you want one let me know and I will hook you up with my Denon dealer in the city...

I think you could get it modded aftermarket to add the DVI output if you really needed it.  Does your projector really convert analog signals to digital? If so then I see the point.

Hi,
If your thinking of DVI for improoved PQ, you may want to check out Immersive.com.
I use their HOLO3D computer pci card vid scaler which works with the Panasonic rp82 which they SDI modified.

If you decide to go the HOLO route there are several players that they will sdi mod for you.  The concept behind the sdi mod is that the signal stays digital though the scaler and to the display device, there is no a/d d/a converson.

The HOLO will take any 480i signal you send it and scale it to any rez that your display can handel.

It has composite/svid/component and sdi inputs.

anyway you may want to check it out.

That is interesting. The thing I wondered with these is you say there is no d/a conversion so what does it output to your monitor?  Let's say my plasma?  I thought it only had analog inputs, so how would this benefit me except from the player to the scaler?

Peter - thanks for the information, look very nice.  $800/Refurb, $900/new.  For everyone else, the website is http://www.immersiveinc.com/ (need the 'inc' at the end)

Hi,
You would connect the interlaced signal from your dvd to the HOLO then  to your plasma from your vid card (i use the ATI component dongle) to the component in on my display (you must use a non hdcp enabled input).

Then through the HOLO UI you would scale the picture to whatever the plasma can handel.  I use 1920x1080i and it looks like HD.

For more answers, please go to the Immersive web site as they have new products and can better answer you questions.
