I need remote control for Foobar.....

OK, I have Empirical Audios Turbo Off Ramp m-audio card going to my Perp Tech dac.

It sounds pretty good.

It is inconvienent to get up and walk over to my computer to skip, pause, stop or even to pick the next CD.

Is there an easy and cheap way to add remote control to a PC?

It would have to work from about 25 feet away.

A wireless keyboard/mouse might work, but I don't know Foobars keyboard controls and the icons for the CD player are too small for me to work a wireless mouse from that distance.

Thanks

Carlman

I wish I had a good answer for you... but I tried really hard to find a solution like what you seek.... I ended up putting the monitor and keyboard (w/mouseball) next to me.

My next plan is to listen to a Squeezebox and compare it to my Audio PC.  If the sound quality is the same (or better), I'll get the box, which comes with a remote and then move the PC to the office and start adding tons of hard drives. ;)

I've thought about configuring and programming a custom user interface using a Palm device.... but that ended up being its own project that I'm not fully capable of doing...  However, it CAN be done... I just don't have the time and $ to invest in it.

There's no easy answer I could find... Good luck and hope someone here thought of something clever.

Foobar's keyboard shortcuts, which can be easily customized, are listed in the preferences under "core > keyboard shortcuts".  A good wireless keyboard would work; or use a product like the ATI remote wonder ($49); or a product like Girder (http://www.promixis.com/) and most any pgmable remote.

I think the airpanel is cool but I think a touch panel such as these AMX would be cooler from just a useability standpoint.  However I haven't read up on the software requirements but I know there are sites and forums about using them with a HTPC front end.

VERY cool, but a bit pricey ($350-400) for a remote solution, unless you have a full-blown HTPC and all processing and audio/video goes there.

Never mind, the Girder remote control looks fine, except the receiver is USB based.

I only have 2 USB ports on that computer and I that would be the 4th USB device  :x

Looks like I need to get a USB hub to add to my computer.

Anyone know how to add extra USB's in an easy way?

Get a USB hub.  Search Newegg for solutions.  There are both internal and external usb hubs, they work similarly just different ergonomics.

Thanks, I was editing as you were posting.

I spoke to my PC store owning friend and he recomends an external 4 port hub for about $20.

Sounds pretty easy in the scheme of things.

Marbles,

You might want to take a look at Patrick Cazeles' site and see if you can use his PDA control module.  He is at: http://pcazeles.perso.cegetel.net/acxo.htm

I don't think I will use a PDA, but I have booked marked that page, as I intend to do digital room correction at some point.

Thanks for the link.
