Looks pretty good (a bit hot from 16k up).  What's the -3db point?

Tuned to 49hz
 F3 44-45hz

Rising top end is the tweeters natural slope.
Does not sound hot at all.
Very smooth .Dannys own words.

Looks nice!  Should be very high on the bang-for-the-buck scale.

But what's all this nonsense about impedance and frequency plots ?  And scientific explanations of the speakers' design and driver characteristics ?  Who cares about that crap ?  And honest low frequency extension specs  ...  :nono:

You should just say  that "RAW & GR will be announcing the GREATEST development in HISTORY!!!!!"  And if it is approved by Homeland Security and the CIA signs off on the top secret details, it may be available at RMAF for all others to worship

We audiophiles want hyperbole and pipedreams, not facts and science damnit!

ekovalsky, you made me laugh. That was truly a funny post.

Unfortunately you can't fool everyone for very long claiming the greatest this and that when it's not, as sooner or later everyone will know better if it isn't.

If it makes you feel better though. I'll think up a little hype for a new thread. All true of coarse.

Hey, don't let Danny fool you into believing he's a down-to-earth, practical guy who designs based on real-world music reproduction sound.  Nay, nay, I happen to personally know that he believes in audio snake oil: cryogenically treated wires, very expensive wires at that.  Wouldn't be surprised if his speaker cables are held off the floor by ceramic upside-down coffee mugs
You read it here first, folks :!:

Tell me about it, I had to drive this guy all over town to get his 'special' binding post plate with super secret stealth black finish and non-resonant asymetrical mounting.  :D ;)

Danny, with less than 4 weeks to RMAF, have you decided what you are going to display? Can you tell us what to look forward to?

I'll be taking a couple of different speakers to show with.

One pair will be Raw Acoustics new RA8.

The other pair will be something special I have been working on that has turned out really good. I am having to build a good looking veneered pair right now and will have them ready in a week or so. Then I'll post some pics and reveal the new design.

I have one upped myself.

Excellant! I'm sure you've come up with another winner. You always seem to have something up your sleeve.

As I posted on the RAW Acoustics circle, I am now the proud owner of the first pair of RA-8 speakers, having purchased the show pair ( the same pair as the pictures on this thread).

Any suggestions as to how to tell the wife?

Now that I'm officially biased, I would like to encourage you all to give these speakers serious consideration. They certainly deserve your attention for their high sensitivity, easy resistance load, imaging, dynamics, clarity, smoothness, detail, soundstaging, etc. etc. I personally can't find fault with them other than bass below 40-45hz. Above that the bass is remarkably fast and dynamic .I listened to some bass heavy kick -drum material without the subwoofer, and it sounded very solid and fast.I was a little concerned about the typical problem of limited vertical dispersion with the ribbon tweeter, but I'm happy to say that when I did a sit-down stand-up test at a fairly close distance, I heard little or no difference in the highs. At the show they put foam in the rear ports to tame the bass in the small room, and that seemed to do the trick.

So for my small house and limited buget, I am more than happy, and will not envy those who opt for the open-backed as-yet-unnamed speaker that was also shown. That is certainly also a killer design, by the way, with it's deep bass and large soundstage.

Thanks to Al and Danny for the great design and beautiful cabinets (it's the beautiful cabinets that are going to help me tell my wife! )
