As I posted on the RAW Acoustics circle, I am now the proud owner of the first pair of RA-8 speakers, having purchased the show pair ( the same pair as the pictures on this thread).
Any suggestions as to how to tell the wife?
Now that I'm officially biased, I would like to encourage you all to give these speakers serious consideration. They certainly deserve your attention for their high sensitivity, easy resistance load, imaging, dynamics, clarity, smoothness, detail, soundstaging, etc. etc. I personally can't find fault with them other than bass below 40-45hz. Above that the bass is remarkably fast and dynamic .I listened to some bass heavy kick -drum material without the subwoofer, and it sounded very solid and fast.I was a little concerned about the typical problem of limited vertical dispersion with the ribbon tweeter, but I'm happy to say that when I did a sit-down stand-up test at a fairly close distance, I heard little or no difference in the highs. At the show they put foam in the rear ports to tame the bass in the small room, and that seemed to do the trick.
So for my small house and limited buget, I am more than happy, and will not envy those who opt for the open-backed as-yet-unnamed speaker that was also shown. That is certainly also a killer design, by the way, with it's deep bass and large soundstage.
Thanks to Al and Danny for the great design and beautiful cabinets (it's the beautiful cabinets that are going to help me tell my wife!
