When I put my SP1.7 in Test mode, and step through the channels, both the right front and right rear channels crackle at intervals; the other 4 channels don't. It's happened several times now, but sometimes (usually?) Test mode doesn't cause any crackles at all. The two affected channels are on different amps and there's nothing in the chain but the SP1.7, the amps and the speakers. All the cabling is fine (and new) and music seems to be unaffected

I have some vague memory this has been seen before, but I didn't find reference anywhere. Help?

HI Scott,

Yes there sometimes appears to be an intermittent crackle as you say. It does not affect the pink noise readings.
It appears to be a 'ghost in the machine'.

Thank you!  Thank you! I have gotten that crackle in test mode every so often and thought it was some kind of interference.  no rhyme or reason and it drove me nuts but never thought to ask the question because I didn't think it was internal to the processor.

Agreed!    I'd be lying if I said the first time I heard it, that it didn't freak me out a bit.

My SP1.7 started crackling on RF and RR channels in test mode tonight.  I was fairly concerned until I found this thread (following several hours searching).  Now I don't need to bother Bryston service with a minor issue, thanks AC!

I have noticed the only time that there is distortion is when the digital source is on when doing the testing.  Turn off your digital source and everything should be fine.
