Gents,

The door is open for reservations.

The event code word is "ELLS" - with no "I".  EllisAudio will come up on the screen and the rate will be $99/night + taxes.

Hyatt Regency Woodfield
1800 East Golf Road,
Schaumburg, Illinois, USA
Tel: 847 605 1234    Fax: 847 605 0328

I am on the hook (i.e. contract) for 20 rooms total.  Please do stay at this hotel if possible.

We will start at 1900 in Friday evening in room 3335 for an organizational gathering, music selection, and source-gear evaluation.  The remainder of the itinerary will remain unchanged per the www.chicagoaudiofest.com site.

Whew, this event might actually matriculate!!  Thanks VERY much for you patience. :)

Great work Dave.  I'm going to attend and look forward to catching up with all of my friends.  Also looking forward to hearing all those great sounding systems!

As of Friday morning, it looks like the list of exhibitors is down to BESL, Ellis, and Salk. Is that correct?

On Saturday, it looks like the primary activity wil be the speaker competition. Will there be any actual listening spaces set up with exhibitor's systems?

Since ZuCable is coming to town for Sunday's Chicago Audio Society meeting, has anyone asked if they'd be interested in exhibiting at the Chicago Audio Fest?

I could see the potential for a much more widely attended event in the future if we convinced dealers/mfgrs well in advance to attend. Nearby folks like AVA and Odyssey - even folks like Red Wine and ACI.

I appreciate the effort Dave has put into this, and I hope he hasn't been discourged from considering future events. Being a promoter is not easy, but if done right, it could actually be very rewarding in more ways than one.

Jerry,

I think Jamin Joe will also attend.  I hope you can make it, it will be good to catch up.  I'll try to remember to bring along some baby pictures.  Little William looks like me but we hope he will grow out of it!

Cheers,
J

BTW - It looks like the icons on the first 2 maps on the Chicago Audiofest Directions page are for the old location.  The 3rd map is correct.  The Hyatt is due North of WoodField Mall (across Golf Road).

I stopped by last night and checked out Dave Ellis' system.  He was playing his Dynaco modded by Van Alstine and a Golden Tube amplifier.  The 1801's were sounding good with tubes.  I look forward to seeing everyone and hearing some great music.  Phil Bamberg is bringing my new Series 5's that I plan to run fully active.  I can't wait to hear how they sound on the really cool amp, pre and CDP from Av123.  That amp weighs as much as a midsized car!  After lifting it, I may need to go streight to the hospital.  Well worth it for great sound!

Cheers!

Yes, there is... always potential.

I am actually very pleased that more folks didn't volunteer to setup.  Given the hotel problems, having 15-20 systems would have been a disaster this year.  Having only 4-5 systems was nearly ideal for the hotel this year.  Following the event, there is some admin before chasing the event for next year.

I DO think there is potential for an event.  Now that I have a test-drive for the event, I MAY be more daring next year.  I must admit that I am also very open to anyone else who might be willing to organize and run the event.  If someone else has a burning desire for organization and this event - great!  If not, I have some ideas about spreading the workload.

This has little to do with the 1801s.  Tubes simply sound better    .  Actually, I must admit that my Golden Tube SE40SE sounded VERY mediocre before Jeff G. accomplished the modifications.  My acoustic memory is fading, but I think it sounded very much like my Bryston 3B-ST.  This changed dramatically after the SE40 mods.  After the mods... wow!

I think... we should categorize our thoughts/feelings about many of these items topically using different header titles.  I'm busy, but will start this in a few days.
