It looks lake we may have the 800s for a while longer than I previously thought. We may have them for up to a month so for those poor unfortunate souls who cannot make the 16th, all is not lost. They should be in soon  so look out your favourite discs and come on in. I'll post when they get here.

Come on guys!  Let's hear about last night at Best Sound with the 800Ds. Some of us had to work. :(  Did they have better bass response than my drum line?  How about more mid bass than my sousaphone section?  Better highs than the new Zildjian cymbals we just bought?  Better mids than my woodwinds (well, they didn't sound so good last night. )

Let's hear all the details and don't spare the adjectives.

Wow!    Best Sound held a terrific B&W event last night.  They had a strong showing with many hardcore enthusiasts.  Thank you Tim for turning me on to this site, inviting me to the event and introducing me to a few members of the GAS gang.   :D

It was a nice turnout - though I think the smaller B&W's sitting out front running off the Audio Research integrated kind of stole the show for a lot of people.  I heard a lot of comments on that setup.

Good to put faces to names finally.

Thanks Tim for the nice partee'! It was great to see the big turnout, wow is high end audio a hip happening or what? Nice to meet some new Gassers too.

Mark, what can I say, you missed it!  :bawl: These babies are humbling to say the least. Mr. Macintosh' explanation of the creation of diamond tweeters at the temperature of the sun was mind boggling. Set the controls for the heart of the sun!

And the sound, we were on our knees worshipping them by the end of the night.   :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :notworthy:  Tremendous dynamics and a literal lack of any audible distortion is about the only way I can describe them. They honestly overwhelmed the room they were in. The midrange particularly sailed my boat.

Thanks again, Tim and we're looking forward to the acoustic show.

Thanks for rubbing it in Steve.
At least if  I had to miss something like this, it was *good*.
And thanks Tim for helping make possible this kind of event at the store.
Hope to make your next one.

I will have those speakers here for another week or so . If anyone wants to come in with a disc or two for a better listening session you're always more than welcome.

I'm curious about the electronics used (since I have B&W speakers -- not the 800D unfortunately).

Tim I also would like to thank you for puting on a first class session. Good food, drinks and good company what more could you ask for. I ran into a few  people who I thought had given up the hobby. It is good to know the are still as involved as ever.As for the sound of the speakers I loved the way they sound. They have great dynamics, extension without  being harsh, and sweet mids. All this and it was using SS. Just think what some tube power would do for them   . Looking forward to hearing the session with Gerry and the discussion on acoustics.

Hiya Guys!

Tim, great event.  It was nice to see so many people in a stereo shop all at one time. Guessing, it looked to be 50 to 60 patrons or so? It was cool talking to Mr McIntosh about the designs for the B&W line. Lots of great sounds everywhere you turned. I agree with Bpape, the AR KT88 at the entrance turned more than a few heads including mine.

Hey MerRev ...... Welcome aboard
Are you the guy we were talking to that had the nOrh marbles? (just trying to put a face to a name)

I guess we should start planning a get together for sometime in late September or October. Hopefully by then, everybodies schedules have slowed down some.

They were using a Classe power amp with Audio Research preamp and CD player. Not sure about model numbers.
