Check out the trailer. Can't wait for December! This will bring back some wonderful memories from childhood Kong fests.

Jack Black is a surprising choice, but he seems to do pretty well in the trailer.

Yeah, the trailer looks pretty good. And Black doesn't seem as out of place as I'd thought he'd have been.

But I thought they showed too much of the SFX & Kong.

Yes it looks very cool. As one of the trailers before the HP movie they had a short interview with Jackson and quite a few movie clips. The graphics were outstanding.

Some pretty cool fights between Kong and various dinasours.

A lot of potential.

I look at this and I see the exact opposite -- it's like King Kong Meets T-Rex. I don't see the appeal.

Been waiting and finally saw it.

I was disappointed. The special effects were great and, they took an extraordinary event and made it believable but then took too much of the supporting ordinary situations and made them unbelievable. This was too distracting for me.

Example: A beautiful blond gal running the streets of NY and ending up outside on top of the Empire State Building with only a negligee on....in the dead of winter!? She didn't even act cold! There were three or four other scenarios that were wacky as well.

Sorry to hear that you were dissapointed.
I guess after sitting through movies like Bewitched,Stealth,The Cave,The Island ect ect....and not expecting a lot from KK...I found Skull Island to be a breath of fresh air with the scary natives and the bats and bugs.

They took the stampede a bit far imo...and it probably wasn't needed.

I liked it. I didn't have high expectations when I went in. I think that is often the key. I think the computer generated effects were some of the best I have ever seen. Whether it was realistic or not, I would have rather seen Naomi Watts in her negligee than in a snow coat

Now, if only, they had actually made her cold.

How jaded we've become. I remember watching the original Kong when I was a kid (on videotape in the early 1980s, lest anyone think I'm talking about seeing it when it was first released). Give me the fake, computer special effects over stop motion models. I also saw the King Kong from 1976 with that big mechanical hand and face. The models and F/X were cool to me as a kid, but I doubt that they'd play as well for me today.

I thought that the CGI in this film seemed to have a bit more weight than other films, the figures seemed to have more substance. Perfect? Nah, but far better than any Kong I've seen previously. And I thought those New York skylines and views from the cockpit were pretty spectacular.

The story isn't new, but I don't think King Kong has ever looked better.

I couldn't disagree more with those who have poo poo'd this movie! IMHO this movie is one of the best of 2005. Care to disagree with me? Let's review some interesting statistics about King Kong 2005:

- Over 100 movie critic reviews that rate this movie between 3.5 or A- at a minimum with many giving it 4 stars and a solid A rating!
- Considered the best CGI to date by many CGI industry insiders (who were not invoved in the movie and do CGI for a living!).
- Voted most likely to win the 2005 awards for best editing, best cinemaphotograpy, best special effects and best musical score of all the movies for this year.
- One of the top 4 candidates for best movie of the year by many critics (I'd rate it in the top six myself, but not top one personally).

Have I said enough "over the top" accolades about this movie yet?

I've just go to say that the scene where Kong takes out the planes by flinging poo was a great addition and really sets this one apart from Kong 33 and Kong 76.

I haven't seen it yet, but I have to say that the trailer was the most technically stunning video I've ever watched on a computer screen. Must be that H.xxx whatever the heck codec Apple was crowing about. Looked damn good, and only 60MB. Not too shabby. Not surprising considering every pixel on a modern movie screen has been computer generated these days.

I can see a time when we get sick of that whole creamy computer graphic look. It's technically mind boggling with the level of rendering they do nowadays, but it still has that look to it. Not saying it's bad, just that it has a very specific look.
