I'm on the hunt for a nice, furniture grade, CD chest.
I've come accross this one that looks well made, and reasonably priced...

Any others that you'd recommend?
I need to hold about 400 CD's.  The ability to expand would be nice but not necessary.  Personally, my preference is for a traditional peice; I'd like to avoid the industrial look, but feel free to post anything for the benefit of others.

Thanks!

Have you looked at Sorice?  They are online at www.sorice.com.  I've got two B300 cabinets currently holding about 500 CDs.  The best part is that my wife likes them, too.   :)

Are you into the library card catalog look?  Leslie Dames is a maker of such furniture that I have seen.  Do a google on them and look at any of the various online sites that sell them to view their offerings.  There is also a Cam something metal cabinet company out of Canada (iirc) that makes metal storage cabinets.

I have three Can-Am cabinets for CDs\vinyl.  Beautifully constructed stuff, but probably not what people think of as "furniture grade" (i.e. wood finish)   It's more industrial, like a mechanic's tool chest or an office filing cabinet.  The included CD dividers suck, though.  But little DIY foamcore fixed that in a hurry.

That is what I was referring to....   I lost all my rack/stand links a while back...didn't have that one anymore.

This is a little unconventional and expensive (Ebay $500 + shipping) but I wanted CD storage that did not look like CD storage. The chest holds over 400 CDs and IMHO looks great doing it.

The draws are lined with felt and I stack the CDs 3 deep with the end facing up so that I can read titles when I side the draws open.

Love that one!  Matches our new furniture.  What was the brand?

Josh,

If you are asking me here is the link to the ebay store. It is not designed for media but it does a great job with looking like a file cabinet or a wall of CDs.

Unfinished or finished furniture
Here is the solution I came up with after years of thought  :D

I found a quality unfinished furniture place and looked for a chest that would hold 3 cds across and up to 500 or so.  I used foam cut to size in the back of the drawers to keep the last cds accessable.

Tight fit across but it works.  It happens that this fiurniture line you can order finished in a few different colors.  It works well with the contemporary feel of the room.

Hope this helps!  Oh here is the link, let's hope it works.

cheers

I will get the brand name of the item when I get  back home from a biz trip.  I think the manufacturer is based in Ohio?  And if I recall they have a web site.

Josh and others who may have an interest.

the maker of the chest I use for CD media is College Woodwork.  They have several styles that may work.  I guess the big issue is finding a retailer and measuring the drawers to ensure a good fit.  I have to leave all my non jewel case cds in a separate drawer because the width is so tight.

I orded mine with nickel colored knobs.  I think the dealer has more info than on the website.  You may have to search for a dealer because I did not see any links.

Good luck!
