Need help with hook up, computer as a source

Ok, ask me a audio hook up question, and I can pretty much answer the questions. But when a coworker, who just bought a house, ask me how to use her computer with all the songs on her hard drive, as a source, I was a little stump. She wanted to use her computer to play music throughout the house. She's not real concern about sound quality, like us audiophiles, just needs to play song. Do I recommend that she get a multichannel reciever? What wires are needed to connect from the PC to the receiver? Any other suggestions? The simpler the better. TIA

When you say - "all through the house" I envision distribution into different rooms, and on different levels. Is this accurate?

Does she expect to be able to change tracks or volume from any room in the house etc?

This will help determine what kind of amp/amps you might need.

We'll keep it simple and say just being able to have music throughout the house controlling only from the source.

Well, other than running speaker cables somehow from where the amp and source will live, I would use a Panasonic digital receiver, that can do "all channel stereo", and that will give you stereo sound in 3 rooms.

This is a portion of the solution implemented for a friend of mine (though with a JVC ES-1).

The control from everywhere comes from the use of a Firefly remote...

Way too many options for this nowadays that one can get dizzy. What is the price range she is shooting for, for total solution? Does she have speakers already? Does she have a large mp3 or like collection already on another computer?

She only has the one computer. She didn't specify a price range, I was thinking will a A/V receiver work? What kind of wiring from the PC to the receiver do I need?
She doesn't have speakers yet, but will probably recommend the Orbs.
