Looks like the same tech as the SD-EX111 etc, but 100wpc, and several channels too.

Sure, the gross speaker connectors would have to be eliminated, and I would only want the main unit (speakers to the junk pile...) but for $159...

Anyone have any experience with these?

I Tripathed myself to death . . . . I'm afraid to get started on 1-Bit!  I'm waiting on the 40-watt stereo amp Schifter mentions on his AV123 forum.  At a cost of $69, I think I'll sit tight and see.  That could really blow a hole in SI's intention of having a 50-watter integrated listed at $300.

Oh, no release date yet for either Schifter or SI.

Do you have a thread for that one? A cheap and compact new amp would be perfect for the Aura NS3-based MLTL's I'm setting up in my office, but the Sonic Frontiers is a bit gutless for an 80dB/w/m wideband driver, even a 3" one 1.5 meters from my ears.

Albee, I recall that you tried a ton of the tripaths - I currently have a little slush in the audio budget, and am interested in trying out some different things.  

The Red Wine Audio Sharp EX-111 that Vinnie let me audition was really nice - the treble was smooth but detailed, and the mids and bass were good too.  Trouble was that it was not quite adjustable enough to do the trick with my open baffle speakers (ie I needed a bigger bass boost, and that unit did not have individually adjustable bass and treble, just a loudness type button that boosted both bass and treble at the same time).

I own, have owned, or have heard the following.

Stock Teac.
PS modded Vinnie Teac - not the DC modded one he offers now, just a lightly breathed on one, where he upgraded the PS parts.
Bolder Teac - full boat mods - not DC
JVC ES-1 receiver
JVC FS-X1 mini system - has the same Hybrid Digital Feedback as the ES-1
JVC EX A1 - mini system that will arrive tomorrow...

I would like to play around with a couple more options, during this experimental phase!

lcrim - sure, eventually I might be ready for tube amplification, but for the moment, all the budget is likely to allow, is more playing around with digital amps - I am also kind of hooked on the bass control on offered by digital amps, and am concerned about leaving that behind.

CSMR - sure, EQ can be done separately, but I am looking to avoid spending US$400+ on a Behringer.  I may end up there, but we will see.

I wonder if that digital integrated is remote controlled?

Mark, tubes are nice if you have the budget and patience.  I listened to my Zen Select for years and ended up using far too many power tubes to suit my  musical tastes.  (My speakers are really only about 92db.)  I'm not a fan of "soft" or "rounded off" that occurs as a tube starts downhill.  AAMOF, the SV-83 power tube is starting to climb in price now--another thing that got me into the "free power" crowd.

I have begun to internalize the concept of "music lover" not "audiophile".  I've spent far too much time listening to identical tracks to hear how the system sounds rather than groove on it!      I say, bring on the "free power".  Inundate me with <$100.00 amps!
