How to cut fiberglass OC 703 2"?
« on: 8 Jul 2005, 05:28 pm »
Hi,
How do you cut the OC 703 , 2"? Since the outer frame is 2'x4', then the inner frame is less. Therefore i have to cut 1" for both lengths to fit inner frame. Which tool do you use?

thanks.

Michael,

I've cut rigid fiberglass using a longblade razor knife and straightedge, but a table saw is better. Even a band saw is better than a knife, assuming the saw has a suitable guide / fence (or whatever it's called).

The table saw really works well.   It allows you to sculpt the sides for cool looking panels.

Thanks to all. Since table saw is expensive and i only use once,  i guess i will build bigger outer frame to accomodate the inner size  frame  = 2'x4'

One more thing. The front of panel will be covered by burlap. Can i use regular fabric to cover the back, just to prevent fiberglass particles escaping into the air.  And i will place panel 1" away from the wall (the maximum i can do)

If you want, an electric carving knife can work very well with the right blade.
