Thanks and happy holidays to all!  I didn't have many problems with the HD board except an occasional crash but it's nice to have a place that will be maintained.

cheers,

Dick

Well I suppose if we are having a mass exodus then I guess I should come along.  It'll be nice to have some people running the show.

I'm anxious for the site to expand to more topics and hopefully get some manufacturers on board.  I think it's off to a good start, though.

One suggestion, though; it would be nice to change the color palette a bit.  All the white is a bit hard on the eyes.

Rob,

I want to start slow and get manufacturers thoughts before I ask too many  of them.

So far I have invited 9 manufacturers.  These were done in an initial group of 5, than a second group of 4.

All 3 from the first group that I have heard from are in.  From the second group (and it's only been about a half hour, I have heard from 3.  Two are in and want says it sounds interesting but he can't do anything until after CES.

I still have not heard from 3, but this is the day before Xmas, so that is not surpising at all.

You should see an Adire, and a Modwright forum soon :-)

So this is what a working bulletin board is like?
 8)

Greetings to all here!

I think the manufacturer participation is a key factor to success - and we need to carry over the sense of community from HD.
It's a shame it had to come to this, but time to move on.

How about leaving the mfgr's back at HD?

That way average 'Joe' can talk about ANY product without the hassle or flack and or spam (in the form of posts) from the mfgr's.

One thing about HD is that the mfgr's don't stay on their forums. They're everywhere. So when people do a product comparison they have to deal with them.

What's ailing HD besides the server issues is the fact that it functions as a cheerleading entity for certain mfgr's. So if this new forum is going to be just an extension of HD ie. "I just bought nOrh,  VMPS,  Odyssey,  or whatever, why bother having it at all?

Good point, thetruth, but it might be better to know it when the mfgr makes a post instead of clandestinely using some anonymous moniker.

I like having the manufactures answer questions about their products.

I like having the manufacturers let us know when they have new products, and what they are like.

The average (or above average) Joe should be able to post on any product they like.

If the choice is between having the manufacturers here and not having them..we chose to include them.

If HD worked, we would not have had to set up this site.  The fact is HD is slow, often crashes, cannot add manufacturers, cannot prune dead forums, cannot add some members like ETR etc..

Since a big component of the HD community is the manufacturers participation, and since we want to capture what makes HD special, it seems silly to leave them out.

Like Jerry said, better that the say it to your face using their own name, then create false monikers like they may do at some other sites.

audiocircle is not an extension of HD. However, many people feel that it's a privilege to have a place where they can communicate with the manufacturers directly.

Also, this site is a day and a half old, so it's still very formative. When I asked for people to contribute to the atmosphere of the new forum, that means *positive* contributions. Your posts so far are distinctly lacking in positivity, never mind Christmas cheer. Coupled with your moniker, my present thinking is that the infant needs you to be moved into Fight Club. I'll think about it for the day.

Cheers

JohnR
