Denon AVR 5700

Bravo D1 DVD player http://www.projectorcentral.com/bravo_d1.htm

American DJ V-3000 power amplifier - powering a custom sub box I built with four 15" subs

Infinity HPS-1000 Subwoofer - "Infinity's best home theatre sub they've ever created - 1000 watts RMS output." according to him

Wharfedale Sapphire Speakers All around...Main towers take 225 watts a peice, rear channels take 175 watts, and the two center channels take 100 a piece. (again this is all according to him)

Some offbrand cables and such.

IMO Its erm....not that good, let me know what you think.

Good is what makes you happy and is usually associated to budget. If he is happy that is all that matters.

For movies that would make me happy but I am not a big time HT fan.

It's no good.  Throw it all out and start over.  10 grand, is that all?  That's fine for a cable budget, but not for the whole system.  It might be good enough for the kids to watch Shrek on, but not for Serious Videophile Watching.  Quite frankly I expected much better from your friend, and I am sorely disappointed in his purchase decisions.

Remove the DJ amp and custom sub then he'll be fine for a starter.

Yeah, but I had a real tubed based system, not this wussy SET crap!

But now that I'm Naim, my tube based system was for girls- just not as girly as the SET stuff.       and I'm writing with my Naim shirt on ;)
