Born in '51.

"Audiophile" at around age 3, or so.    I'd sit and watch the records go 'round and round'.   :o

My first tuner was a Channel Master 6-transistor radio

But hey, I later added a wall hung 8" speaker so I really had bass in my bedroom 'system'.  Upgrade-ite-'is started early for me

I mean, serious stuff that was for a pre-schooler.....

Anyway, I'm saving my spare money for a new AVA pre-amp. Probably a T-8. I would expect it to be a serious improvement in my current system.

I'm a much older kid now.

I ordered the new T8 a few weeks ago.  Couldn't pass it up with claims of it outperforming the now old circuit of the T7, especially at the price point.  :D   Opted for the Phono and remote options.  Looking forward to hearing it in my system.

Mark,

please let me know your opinion about T-8 when you will get it. I am very close to order the same configuration as you.

Hi:

You hit the nail on the head.  Yes, the new preamp has more resolution than the T8, and yes the T8 is a bit more "relaxed" than the new preamp.  The T8 does, however, have more resolution than the T5, T6 and T7 preamps.

For those wanting the older "toob" sound they probably would find both lacking.  We do have the Dyna PAS rebuilds that are much more softer sounding, but naturally you would need to have a PAS to upgrade.

Larry

You could always get a T8 and use really low gain tubes in it and get back all of that "toob" sound. :-)
