What's the difference between SACD and Hybrid SACD?
« on: 25 Jun 2005, 11:24 pm »
Thinking of buying a the Pioneer 588 SACD Player just to hear what SACD sounds like.  Did a search on Amazon for titles and some say SACD and some say Hybrid SACD.

What's the difference?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hybrid SACD has an additional CD layer, making the disc compatible with virtually all CD capable players.  Nowadays, virtually all SACD titles are released on hybrid SACDs.  Sony is the only company with a sizable catalog in single-layer SACD, but it was releasing hybrid SACDs before it stopped last year.  Certain Sony SACDs are starting to become collectible items.
