Anyone tried Cobalt Cable Ultimate Speaker cable?
« on: 13 Jun 2005, 03:54 pm »
I have a 10' pair of these with bananas, with about 10-15 hours of burn in. They don't sound very good to me, they sound rather dark and lifeless and the dynamics aren't very good. They don't match well with my system which is already on the warm/lush side. I prefer my 14 gauge home depot wire to these. Is anyone familiar with these cables, and do they improve with burnin, or is this the best I can expect from them? Any suggestions on a suitable replacement? I'm thinking Zu Cable Julians.

I have not tried their speaker cables but have considered trying out their Ultimate Interconnect.

I also have been using Home Depot wire for my speakers.  I bi-wire with  12 gauge for the bass drivers and 14 gauge for the mid/bass and tweeter.  Of course because I am an audiofool and an audiosnob the little voice inside my head keeps telling me that I need to spend big bucks on speaker wire in order for it to sound good.  Outdoor extension cord cannot possibly sound this good.

I tried out a set of Audience cables and I preferred the HD wire.  It sounded faster with more rythym pace and drive.  Less resistance perhaps??

Is it possible the ultra cheap Home Depot wire does not need to be replaced?  Evertime I get the urge I go out and buy some more CD's/DVD-A's/SA-CD's or LP's instead.
