Just got my JVC RX-F10S (Amazon @ US$189) and would like to thank Chairguy and all the others who have provided such invaluable input/suggestions! Gracias!
Before I start, please read at least some of this if only to appreciate where you live and what is readily available to you (if you've got the necessary $$$ to satisfy some or all of your "habit").
For those who are on a very restricted setup budget and are wondering whether to take the plunge into digital, there is a very marked diference compared to the Marantz SR585 A/V amp I was using. My wife and kids noticed "much more detail" on movies and especially on music.... right out of the box and in spite of the fact that Mexican Customs officials destroyed the foam packaging. The amp was sitting on the bottom of the cardboard box for the rest of its shipping. (Does that make it physically robust too?) We are enjoying music again! Home theater is also more of a hoot.
Facts/complaints before the Question:
a) I'm in provincial Mexico and can't throw away over US$1,000 on a flawed "equipment-buying experiment".
b) Getting stuff shipped over the border can be a nightmare/excessively & arbitrarily expensive (if you in fact finally receive the merchandise).
b) Prices are 30%-50% (or more) above US levels for even lower- mid-range equipment.
c) You have to be in a major city to listen to equipment before buying.
QUESTION: Would "tried and true/reputable" like B&W SM602 S3's,B&W ASW 600 sub work with this amp (they're available here)? The claimed impedances don't seem to ask more of the amp than it can give.
Because of where I live, I will always be buying "blind".
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
