So, I'm in mid-storm right now.  Thunder.  Lighning.  Rain.  That sort of thing.

And no music.

I was part way through track one on my favourite Cassandra Wilson disc when I heard a crack of thunder, a quiet "ptht" from my stereo, and then silence.

The power went out for a second, and then came back.  But pressing play on the CD player seems to make no music.  So...~gulp~...have I fried my speakers?  Is there something else that might have gone wrong?

What gear is in your system?  And did everything power back on?

Do you have any type of power protection?

Maybe you simply blew a fuse?

rotel CD player -> monarchy DIP -> smART DI/O -> sugden headmaster -> CI Audio VMB-1s -> Von Schweikert VR1s

Everything powered back on, and the smART DI/O locked onto a signal.

All I know is that I don't get any music right now.

Hmmm...I do have an old integrated lying around.  I should be able to check the speakers, right?

What's the best way to test for a blown fuse somewhere?

any powerstrips/multiplug adapters that are powering some of the components and not others?
Are all the components connected to the same outlet?
If not are the different outlets on different circuits/breakers?

One duplex outlet.

From one of the pair of outlets, I have a standard run-of-the-mill power strip.  Into this is plugged the cd player, the DIP, a Blue Circle noisehound III, a dvd player and a TV.

From the other of the pair of outlets I have an "audiophile" four outlet powerstrip with no surge protection or anything like that.  Into this I have plugged both monoblocks, the pre-amp and the DI/O.

hmm, seems to be the speakers.  Stereo works with other speakers wired in.  And wiring the offending speakers up to another systems yields nothing.

Is there anything that can be done in a situation like this?  or are they likely to be dead?
