Sub-woofers are on sale!

Through the month of June we will be running a special on the SW-12A and PR-12A.

Only $129. for the pair.

I want more people to give these a try. So far everyone that has built a sub with these has loved them. Not known for our sub-woofers they haven't flying out the doors like our other products do. Maybe some incentive will help.  :D

hi danny,

on your website, i would suggest listing vendors who make cabinets & knock-down cabinet kits, as well as showing plans for cabinets...  or did i miss this somewhere?

regards,

A crazy sale demands a crazy design.    :D

How about...

A pair of SW/PR-12A in a single cabinet. SW-12As on opposite walls, mechanically linked (greatly reduces vibration) and push-push (bipole). PRs on the other two walls.

I'll be dipole down to near 40 Hz, and need coverage below. Fair sized room, at least 3000 ft3, not counting the adjacent open space.

That is in the works. I believe we are going to quit offering cabinets and just direct our customers to one of a number of our resellers in their area.

Here is a list of a few.

West coast, North West, and Canada, Raw Acoustics: http://www.rawacoustics.ca/
Lower East Coast, Rutledge Audio: http://www.rutledgeaudiodesign.com/speakers.htm
Soon to be announced, in the upper North East, PNF Audio: http://www.pnfaudio.com/
Midwest and North Midwest area, Salk Audio: http://www.salksound.com/

tg3 if you build that then you'll have to post some pics and let me know how it turns out. It does sound pretty crazy.

Yep, I can't forget Hank.

Hank builds them on a part time basis but he is really good at building them. He really loves using the Rosewood too.

Anybody in Texas or close to it can give Hank a call for a quote on any of our models. He has my recommendation as well.

You can contact any of the recommended companies for cabinets regardless of where you live but using someone close by can really save you shipping costs, especially if picking them up is a close drive.

Danny, would you mind letting me know how long you will be having this sale? I don't need one yet but I should be able to think of something in the future!

I haven't decided yet, but for you I'll extend it.

I love the new thread you started with the complete build process pictures. Very cool. I look forward to seeing more progress, completion, and results. Nicely done, and very informative.

Hi Danny, long time no see.  Hope you and your family are well.

I've been looking at your subs for some time and just haven't had the opportunity yet to build a pair.  Ever since Debi got to experience the dual 18 inchers we listened to a couple of years ago, she has been on me build a pair of subs :D

I do have a few questions about them, though.

I notice that they sport foam surrounds while most sub woofers use butyl rubber.  Why did you go with foam and how do you think they will peform in the long term?

From the pictures it looks like the PR is the same as the woofer without the magnet, but does appear to have a flat diaphram rather than a cone. Is the PR diaphram flat?

If I get them immediately I won't be able to build proper boxes for them till late fall, but I do have two, 2cf boxes I could use in the interim.  Any advice on tuning the PR for a 2cf box?

Thanks,

Bill A

Hey Bill how are you and Debbie doing? Will you and Debbie be able to go to the RMAF this year?

The butyl rubber knocks some sensitivity out of them. The new treated foam that is being used now is much tougher and will last much longer than the foam used years ago. This stuff is tough.

The only thing that is the same is actually the frame and surround. The front surface of the PR is about a 5/8" thick sheet of MDF.

You can just drop them in and not do anything and get a -3db down in the 23Hz range. You can also add mass to the PR by adding heavy metal washers to the bolt that sticks through the center of the MDF front plate and lower the tuning frequency to get back a little more low end extension. They are really easy to tune.

Yes, Deb and I planning to attend RMAF this year.  We had planned to come last year, but just couldn't make it happen.  It sounded like you and Gary had a really good show.

O.K. Danny, sounds good to me, I'll get a pair ordered tomorrow.  I'm going to drive them with the PE 250 watt plate amps and I have a rather unique box to put them in; I'll put up a picture when I'm done.

Subs with Alpha LS
Hey Danny!
I built the Alphas last year...love em'.  Now I'm thinking of adding a sub or two.  I'v got a large-ish room 16x27x16 (cathedral type ceiling).  I would like some additional slam in the lower end.  Would these subs be a good addition to the Alphas?  If so, what do I gotta' do to make em' work?

The SW-12A and RR-12A combo will work great for you.

In a room that size I would at least use a pair of them. You can run a pair of them off of a single plate amp too.

Danny:
Do I have to raise the frequency of the of the Alphas? Or can I run them the way they are?  I'm going to check the available space behind the Alphas for sub woofer placement.  I have other areas I can put them but isn't it best near the main speakers?  I'm gonna' do it!!!!!!!  If I can convince the "ball and chain".

You won't have to do anything to your Alpha's. Just add the subs along with them.

If you really want to get serious with them, you can do sub-woofers towers with 4 woofers and PR's per box.

Al Wooley posted some pics of a pair he built here somewhere.
