Why are they a pain to set up?  Don't you just stick them on the wall?  I ask because I'd like to take my Linn 5140s (floor standers) upstairs and buy the dipoles.  This would also allow me to free up some floor space.

Dont do that !! Dipoles need lots of breathing room around them. I have my Apogee's over 8ft from the backwall. Dipoles are quite picky on the placment but not soo much on room nodes and boundries. They load the room equally which reinforces less room nodes. The VMPS speakers are a lot easier to place since the are monopoles exept the Supertower i think. I have my RM30's about 4ft from the backwall and love them there.

Florian,

He's asking about the VMPS ribbon dipoles which are different than your Apogee dipoles. The VMPS ribbon dipoles are meant to be wall mounted.

I have a pair of ribbon dipoles and they are not wall mounted.  They are an incredible sounding speaker.

The Ribbon Dipole ($900ea) can be standmounted, hung flat on a wall
like a picture, or mounted inwall between the studs.  It is 14.5"W, but only 6" deep.  Height is 26".  Mids and tweeters fire at a relative angle of 45 degrees from each other.  The RD provides a diffuse soundfield of very high quality and fidelity. There is a front firing 6.5" Megawoofer standard.

Is the $900 without the nice tweeters?  That is a very nice looking speaker.

Yes the $900 a speaker is with the "spiral ribbon" tweet.

The FST adds on $400 "per" speaker since there are 2 FSTs in each.

Any thoughts on this:

planar driver which might match OK w/VMPS, adjustable for direct or dipole use.  $1000/pr. list.

Has a fourth order crossover, which I've never liked, but for surround duty, may be fine and the planar driver covers a large range.
