In mid-2002, I bought a pair of RM2s and three 626 Neo's for my home theater. Worked great. Over this past weekend, a lightning strike / power surge took out a bunch of electronics in my house, including my Onkyo receiver. (Thankfully, Monster appears to be honoring the warranty provided by their power strip.) I have a number of questions, in no particular order.
- I forget whether my speakers were 4 ohm or 8 ohm, although I remember Brian Cheney offering me a choice. Any easy way to tell what I have? I'll need to know that to help me with...
- Picking a new receiver or processor / amplifier combo. The Onkyo TX-DS797 (rated at 6x100W) did the job, but I'd sometimes be cranking it up pretty far for some movies. I think I need more headroom. I'm intrigued by the Arcam AVR300, which would allow me to bi-amp my RM2s. Anybody tried this configuration? Worth the bother? Part of me hears the siren song of separates, but it's hard to justify the big cash outlay.
- Anybody else had any kind of power surge like this? Were your speakers damaged? Anything I should look or listen for that might indicate additional damage for my Monster "insurance" to cover? I've got an older, stereo receiver. I suppose I could use that to feed signal to two speakers at a time, but it clearly won't sound the same as the full surround setup.
- Anybody have a copy of the RM2 setup instructions? That sheet of paper is long gone, and it looks like I'll have to go through the whole knob twiddling / putty picking process again.
Thanks!
