I am actually a solid state of guy but want my Pioneer S-1EX speakers to sound a bit more smooth and musical. I hope to achieve this with a tube preamp. And i like to have it xlr in and out. I'm thinking of a Audio GD HE-1 or maybe a MingDa MC300?? Any experience on both?

The HE-1 300kHz freq range are great.
I dont want a pre-amp that use two expensive tubes as 300B, but it looks better that a pre-amp that use PCBs as the HE-1. IMO

Oh, and there is also a solid state version of the Audio GD HE-1.  According to a website called Audioexchange, the owner get to try lots of gear and the MingDa is his favorite. But i'm not sure i can live with the Mingda if the sound on the Audio GD is also very good. The MingDa would have to sound a lot better for me to choose it. I think it would be possible to audition both but it would be a long drive.

Ms.Suena at Ming Da customer service always attend me very well.
Some Ming Da power amp can double 300B and 2A3.
This MC300B could have a much better value if it also could run 2A3.
