Advice...
« on: 29 Oct 2025, 04:34 pm »
Hey, maybe not appropriate here, but I'm looking to sell used gear and tried craigslist, facebook marketplace, would try to avoid ebay and audiogon because I really don't want to ship. Any other ways audiophiles look for used gear for sale?

I understand if this gets deleted.

Thanks,
Ben

US Audio Mart is good and it's free.

I think it depends on the gear you want to sell...IMO you're better off donating any bargain basement stuff to Goodwill.
+1 for USAM...USAM has in general a fairly sophisticated audience. They know what they want, what is a "Fair" asking price and what they can afford...but you do run into some jokers there sometimes.
Craigslist is dead...everyone has moved to FB Marketplace.
FB Marketplace is iffy. Problem with Marketplace is that you're reaching, in general, a pretty unsophisticated audience. If you're a Buyer, you can score some good deals but the same rarely holds true if you are seller.
Ebay is good as long as you can live with piece of the action they get when a sale is completed, and yes you can choose No Shipping / Pick Up Only.
Never sold on A'gon, only purchased and that ended when I found USAM although I still visit the site about twice a month if I'm looking for something in particular.

Yamaha626 really nailed it in his response.  Ill add my agreement to what he offered in case you were looking for additional confirmation.   If it is shippable, USAM and ebay are easy and popular.  If in-person pickup is preferred than FB marketplace or ebay (offer local pickup only) are your options.

I have had good luck on FB marketplace, but because the audio buyers are so limited, you have to be very patient.  Not 6 weeks patient, sometimes 6 or 9 months patient.

There are a couple other options.  I have never sold on Reverb for example, but as a buyer I see their adds and listings all the time. I see a decent deal there occasionally, but i often feel their listings are priced high, and at the same time it seems that their buyers are also going to be checking USAM, FB, ebay before making that purchase.

Good luck. Price it reasonable, then just sit and wait.  Lots of patience. If you want it gone fast, ebay local will do that, but you might only get your opening bid if it is low enough, so set it accordingly.

The Music Room is good and the make the transaction, including shipping easy. The downside is you will get wholesale prices. I don't know how to determine what wholesale price would be but if you don't like the price they offer, the other options are still viable.

I've also bought gear off Reverb so that may be worth checking out.

The last thing is if you have a record store within driving distance, they may also sell used equipment. Either buying it outright or selling it on consignment.

Thanks for all the info everyone. Am I dumb, blind or just lost? I couldn’t see the trading post before. Do you have to login to the account to see it? Huh.
I’ll try that too.
