We demo'd the PlanarBass at Axpona and the Mira at CAF
Danville (and Wendell) support dipole woofers as a concept for use with panel speakers.
Demonstrating and supporting a variety of dipole woofers sends a clear message for dipole woofers as a superior concept for panel speakers.
Open baffle designs have a very similar polar pattern to these types of speakers. In both cases, we set the crossover higher than the typical 80 Hz. We also high passed the mains at the same frequency.
In the case of Ex Machina Mira it was 150 Hz. Since the polar patter was so similar, the crossover was seamless. I don't think anyone could hear the crossover point transition in the room.
This lets the Maggies (and most similar speakers) to be more dynamic since the excursion requirements ae reduced by about a factor of 4 each time you reduce the passband by an octave.
BTW, the Mira's look small, but they use an incredible driver that has a very long throw and also has very low distortion. They are essentially flat from 30 Hz to about 1000 Hz. This system was not lacking in bass.
The picture shows 4 woofers, but only the center pair were used. The outer pair were just show and tell where you can see the 3D fabrication better. They are open to the sides and back.
FWIW, Danville and Rich are resellers of this woofer.
