STIII Super Tweeter Variations
« on: 18 Oct 2025, 03:45 pm »
Anyone familiar with the different ribbon tweeters Brian may have used in the STIIIs? Mine appear to have Pioneer ART-54Fs which does not seem to be the norm. Most seem to have JVC HSW1101-01A. I got these speakers from my grandfather, who purchased them new from a now defunct shop out of South Carolina. He was not one to modify his own stuff, and he had records for all of his audio equipment so I’d imagine if he had someone swap them he’d have some record of it… but maybe not…

Mine are fostex. I may be able to find out a little later exactly which model they are. I had the jvcs on my regular super towels previously until I blew them up a year or two ago. You will never be able to find replacement jvcs, but you may find counterfeit Chinese versions, which I would not suggest you get. If you do find any javcs they will be massively overpriced.

The Visaton MHT 12 are similar in specs to the JVC Tweeters. Also the Philips AD21600/RT8 is a tweeter used in Vmps FF1 speakers. I never seen the Pioneer tweeter used in any Vmps speakers. Might be a one time thing who knows. If they work and sound good, then leave them alone.
