Used condition under $2k top load cd players
People like YBA? Marantz ? REGA? Most analog like players choice ?
Prefer not to have to purchase dac separate
What do you all prefer ?
And is it worth buying a cheaper transport and
Spend on dac for analog out?

Rega have one(ugly) for years in line. Now there is one Japanese CEC TL-2 at over $4,000usd (used) in the Trading Post Circle.

Stereophile's Herb Reichert reviewed and liked the new Shanling ET3 CD transport for $899.00

I know, it's not a CD player but I have found a separate DAC can sound better than an all-in-one player. And all my CD players crapped out sooner than I thought they should. These days an excellent DAC doesn't cost that much and a $1000 DAC plus the the Shanling ET3 CD transport would fit into your budget. I haven't heard the $1299 Rega Apollo or the $3400 Rega Saturn.

I ripped all my CD's and now use a music server. I haven't played a CD in 14 years and this week I am giving away all 450 CDs (in jewel boxes with original booklets) to a couple of friends.

I'm not selling but I do have Rega Apollo-R and a few Rega Saturns and Saturn-R.
They're excellent with the Saturn being a step up, you'll notice the difference in both the lower registers and the highs.

The smart play is to always choose the cd transport & separate dac. Or a cd player feeding into a separate dac using the coax output.
The cd drives have a high rate of failure now and the technology in the dac's keeps getting better and better. Keeping these components separate makes it easier to upgrade. Every time I've upgraded my dac's over the past 20yrs, I am astounded by the improvement in sound quality.

If you're ok with silver Safe and Sound Audio in Ma. has the ET-3 for $639.  Pair it with the Laiv uDAC at $994 and you've got a really good setup for under your budget plus they are both half sized components so less shelf space and not everything crammed in one box.

If I recall, Stello was one of the April Audio product lines. I think there was an Eximus top loading unit also.

I'm pretty sure I saw a top loading Rega for sale on USAM today
