Cheap and Cheerful Silver Balanced XLR Cable

Bought some more balanced gear and in need of more balanced XLR cables, I just made a pair using the venerable Xangsane SP-9001Ag silver-ribbon wire and Cardas clone XLR connectors.   Sounds fantastic, but I almost forgot what a pain working with this wire is.  :green:

Very nice.  I just bought one of their USB cables which is a clone of my Wire World Starlight Platinum 7 USB cable.  It gives me 90% of the WW.

As recommended, I bought some of that cable for my FU-19 tube amp. But I will be using the cables single ended, with some old (genuine) Cardas silver RCA plugs I have on hand. From what I have read, one uses red lead positive, white lead return, the black stranded cut flush at both ends, silver shield connected at source. Sound right?
Probably get around to it this winter.

For single-ended, that's exactly right. I recommend some nice, right-sized heatshrink to secure the RCA plug to the wire for strain-relief.

For XLR, same idea but don't cut black(non-ribbon) wire and connect it to pin 1 (ground). Connect shield at source-end only to pin 1.
