Anyone using Theta gear?

Was researching LD players built buy Theta and started looking at the Dreadnaught II.

Looks like a decent way to get a 7 channel amp in one chassis. Doesn't seem to be too expensive if you pick one up on Agon.

I'm not in the position to upgrade my amplification any time soon. So I've got a long time to look at options...

Dread2 is a wonderful HT Amp- and I highly recommend it if you can grab a cheap on thru Audiogon. Post a wanted ad on 'gon, I am sure you will have replies.

I'd recommend Dread2 with 3 modules of Dread2 Amp modules, and 2/4 Channels of Dread1 module (for surrounds). The 2x1.2 kVA definitely gives more slam than Dread1. However, if you read TPV Mag, reviewer preferred Dread1 for 2Ch to Dread2.

Theta customer service is also great (ok sometimes pricey-but nice guys). I have Theta CB2+Dread2 and I am broke :D

Cheers,
Kishore

Thanks for the info.

I'd figured that 3 mono & 2 stereo modules would be the way to go. I don't ever listen to 2ch sources so it's of no matter that the Dread1 is a better stereo amp.

Seems to be available for about $3,500-$4,000 on AudiogoN. Which is  exactly the range I'd be looking at if I went with new Odyssey gear.

I'd probably get more value with Odyssey gear. But if the Dread2 is in the same league it's got a big adavntage in my book. I've got enough gear as it is, and the one box Dread2 looks mighty inviting when one has a lack of room.

A friend of mine picked up a Dreadnaught I a couple of weeks ago, and it is fantastic!  Very powerful amp.  Quiet, smooth, and amazing levels of detail.  I did not expect this to be a smooth amp, but it pulls it off without loosing ANY detail.

When my friend put this on his Logans, it was the only time I have ever really had a blast listening to his system.

This has got to be the ultimate home theater amp.  You would surely be evicted!

Theta is a little steep for me, but I've heard that it delivers "shock and awe" performance.

Speaking of A-gon, I saw a 5 CH Musical Fidelity amp there for under $1500.  This amp has been raved to kingdom come by every mag out there.  I'd truly love to have it, although 120 watts X 5 isn't exactly hi power.  It would probably be enough juice as I have subs with their own lowpassed amp.  But right now I'm waiting on the Le Amp II's, so any other amps will have to wait.

Maybe if it was a 7 channel amp. And didn't CAL go out of business?

Yeah, CAL is no more and I would not touch CAL products for lack of support/upgrade....

Well, then I guess I won't be bothering with anything CAL then.

For now a 7ch Dread2 is still at the top of my amp list. And it'll probably stay on the list for quite some time (unless I win lotto or something)...
