Looking at Schiit Freya+ vs Kara.
Kara seems to get uniformly good reviews,
but Freya+ seems to get mixed reviews.
Yet Freya+ is Stereophile Class A recommendation.
Whats a person to do?
Amplifiers: Class A/AB vs Class D?
Schiit Tyr/Wotan vs Buckeye monoblocks,
Whats a person to do?

If you have 8 ohms hi efficiency speakers you can use a inexpensive sweet small tube amp or any other amp you like, but if your speakers are 4 ohms low efficiency your options are limited to expensive powerful monster amps. IMO

Welcome to AC. What speakers do you have or plan on using in the system. Amplifier will depend on this.

I agree with Bill. Choose the amp that works best with your speakers. I believe every component you've mentioned offers an audition policy with a return option. Yes, it may involve shipping or even a modest restock fee, but this is far cheaper than making the wrong decision. In the end, no one here can tell you what to buy. I can truthfully tell you I've had a Schitt Freya+ for a few years and I really enjoy it. Just drop in some NOS or ANOS 6SN7's and you're good to go. But I'm not about to tell you to buy it over the Schiit Kara. That's something you'd have to decide thru an audition.

I've used a Freya for three years.  It works well for me, and I am not shopping/dreaming for a replacement/upgrade.
