Dac has gone silent.
« on: 3 Sep 2025, 12:30 pm »
Hi, while enjoying some music a couple of nights ago everything came to a halt. Found my Dac had stopped working.
Checked the usual things. Fuse is fine, plug was not loose. No obvious signs of what the problem might be.
So, I'm looking for suggestions for repair service in the US.

My DAC is a Gustard r26. 2 years old so no warranty. I have reached out to Gustard but no response. I have searched but so far, no luck.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bob2.

Gremlins. Very strange. Have you switched inputs on your pre or tried another amp?

So, no power up then? No lights are on? The outlet it is plugged into will power something else?

That screams issue in power supply side. Weird it would be there without blowing a fuse though. Feel like busting out a screwdriver and multimeter and digging in a little? First open it up and see if you find any obviously crispy resistors or exploded capacitors, then check those internal cable connections from transformers, then go along from power input forward check some key points with your multimeter.

Let me apologize for not including more info in my first post. I have opened it up and looked for any signs of an issue. Checked continuity in the power receptacle. Looked for other internal fuses. Only thing I found was the push button power switch on the front was loose. I checked continuity on that and the switch works as it should.
I have assembled several amps from kits, so I have just enough knowledge to be dangerous. I swapped in my old DAC and everything is working fine.

I don't want to make the problem worse and finding parts is likely an issue. Probably my best course of action is to let a pro make repairs.

I appreciate yours and everyone's suggestions.
Thanks!

Did you try the link to DISCORD?  I clicked it and it takes you to a separate website that invites one to join a forum.  If the support email doesn't get a response you might try it.

I mention this only as a possibility. You did not mention your music source. Certain CDs had the Sony Root Kit virus even can get it from downloads.
Anyway an old computer of mine the sound stopped working. My friend who is a computer whiz troubleshooted the computer and he could not fix or find the problem and it definitely was software related.

Its a nasty software virus.

I reached out to SHENZHENAUDIO about repairs. The only repair facilities appear to be theirs, in China. After looking into shipping costs, there and back, it is out of warranty so I don't expect them to pick up shipping costs, Its just over $500 each way. While no one could answer definitively about tariff being an issue for the return, I'm going to sell it for parts.

Thanks for the info and comments everyone.

Hi Bob, I have a local friend who is a retired EE here in the Twin Cities that fixes audio gear.  He has been doing this for 50 years.  He has repaired a number of my gear and has very reasonable prices.  If you are interested in having him take a look at it I can give you his forum name and you can pm him.  It would help if he had the schematics which you may or may not be able to get from the company.

If it doesn't power on at all there's a good chance it'll be an easy fix by a competent repair tech as it's likely something faulty early on in the power supply chain.
