Tube integrated to go w/Norh 4.0s
« on: 26 May 2005, 08:04 pm »
Looking for a tube integrated amp w/remote volume control to go w/Norh 4.0 speakers. Limit is around $1K, used would be fine. Also looking for a CD player, $500 or so max, again used OK. Suggestions? Thanks.

Presently I'm using a Panasonic XR45 w/Pioneer DVD transport, and would like to upgrade this system and go tube w/it.

I own the ONIX H34 integrated and it is a great piece of equipment, but probably one of the best deals around is this:

At the end you can keep the speakers you like the most and end up with money in your pocket

It looks interesting, I'm just kinda hesitant to deal w/Norh again.

Why not an hybrid?  One tube switch with SS control in the bass.

There is an Aero Audio Intregrated that goes for less than 1K right now at Audiogon.  It seems to be a good integrated for the money.

Magic of tubes, less the hassle.

I second the Onix H34 from av123.com. Beautiful sounding amp from an outstanding company with excellent customer service.  Check out the SP3 amp too.

I'll check out the Onix and the Audio Aero.  I'm a hybrid fan, I use Llano Trinity hybrids for my main system.

if yure into tubes, i would look for integrated amps by jolida, antique sound labs, & mingda, to name a few.  if yure ok w/a hybrid, may wanna bust the budget, yust for aesthetic reasons!  :D

The new ASL 1003 has three things going for it which I really like.

1. Remote
2. Built-in bias meter. This is not to be underestimated--you can tweak bias all the time and get a sense when the power tubes are starting to go. All tube amps should have this.
3. Subwoofer out. Actually its a pre -out

The amp from av123 is available for much less if you know where to look. And there's another thread on this forum which discusses some remarkably inexpensive tube amps a guy in HK sells on ebay.

ya, i wonder who posted about 18audioguy on ebay?  he *does* have some remarkable deals.     actually, there's a slew of ebay sellers from the far east w/good deals on chinese gear...

doug s., who personally won't do w/o remote or bias adjustment (or self-biasing) on my own gear...

Love those Pathos units, but more than I want to spend unfortunately.  Gotta draw the line somewhere.  Haven't heard the Jolida or Onix, but know where I can get a discount.   I'll check out ASL.  Any opinions on Rogue gear here?
