advice for new cable build

Howdy!
I decided I would give this a shot. Its the longer interconnect and shorter speaker cable thing. I got some new Klipschorns and for how they fit in my space I think for one, it would look better as these beasts where they need to sit obscure full view of my rig and I happen to have some nice amp stands. Soooo.. I am consider building these long interconnects so as to have amps closer to the speakers... The big first question is solid or stranded, second is twisted or parallel? I had my eye on some 22 gauge stranded silver plated twisted but the more I thought about it, I was liking the idea of single conductor.. maybe magnet wire? What have you all tried in a setup like this? This run will be somewhere around 15 feet or so. What ya think?

Thanks! Beat.

Too long, it may have some antena effect.
Audio cable are always stranded.
I dont like "silver" cables, prefer copper awg 16 or 18 for IC.

I have never tried anything that long, but if your pre / power has balanced connections. I would recommend using balanced cables for its noise rejection designs. If not just try what you propose in the first place and see how you get on.

My next speaker cables will be from Viablue, Germany. I like their design and metallurgy, and they're sensational value in high end terms - https://viablue.de/en/kabel/lautsprecherkabel/single-wire/sc-6-air-single-wire-t8-banana/

Is this thread about:
1)  RCA interconnect cables?
2)  XLR interconnect cables?
3)  Loudspeaker cables?

Thanks for your input so far.
Get it? input? waa waaaaaaa.... So my buddy here who I trust his intellect claimed having longer input cables and shorter speaker cables might be better as the input signal is less corruptible than speaker cables. I dont know that I believe this concept but his argument is that pro audio people practice this every day and a million sound board roadie gaffer guys cant all be wrong. I like the look of those german cables! Im in a rush this morning but will report back later today
thanks again

Yes, pro audio do that as they run balanced XLR due to it’s noise rejection design.

Here is Paul McGowan from PS Audio talking about it.

RIght, I wasnt clear. We are talking a long run of RCA interconnects. If the amps and preamps dont both utilize xlr, there is no point in trying to fake anything correct? Its more than just a shielding thing. Obviously long runs are better with the balanced xlr but I cant justify new gear over this task.

Depends on cost as well. I would recommend a shielded cable. Inexpensive would probably best be a cable from a well known manufacture like Mogami. You buy the length you need and terminated it with connectors.

I would use Belden 8428, 8402 (most of my cables are 8402), or Duelund 20g tinned copper in oil and cotton.  I love the sound and tone of the Duelund wire.  It has a warmer rich tone.  Very smooth.  Same for both Belden cables but they lean to the neutral side with a hint of warmth in my system and my son's.

I typically avoid shielded for analog interconnects but for a 15ft. run I think it might be a good idea. Options include Belden 4505R and Neotech 3003.

For RCA interconnects, regardless of length, I would only chose a coax cable with a braided shield.

There is the inexpensive CAT5 coax cable.

CAT cable can be a good choice for balanced interconnects. Sometimes with an adapter box to 4 XLR connectors.
But CAT cable is a very poor choice for RCA interconnects.

Thanks for all the tips and advice. I will consider all this and when I get it set up, I'll post a pic or two. We shall see where I land. That all cotton Duelund stuff is intriguing! Didnt know anyone was making anything like that these days. Plenty to think about. Have a good weekend guys!

For the Coherent Audio GR18 speakers, Designer Frank Fazzalari uses Duelund stranded tinned and waxed cotton jacket wire on the feed to the compression driver. The super tweeter uses Silver/Teflon wire, and the woofers are fed by Duelund PolyCast wire. Frank found that the PolyCast really improves the bottom octaves in his experience, and that after much trial and error, that combination of wire seemed the best for the GR18's.

Before you try to DIY a full 20k bandwidth 15' RCA cable understand the fundamentals.

A good primer from a retired Belden veteran

The types of coax cables often used in RCA interconnects are good from DC to over 50 megahertz.
