Ozzy Osbourne has died at 76, just weeks after delivering an emotional farewell performance at Villa Park alongside his Black Sabbath bandmates.
Ozzy had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in February 2019.

RIP

Glad I finally listened to Pumpkinman 6 years ago and started listening to Sabbath, he kept after me for a long time. Safe home Ozzie!

The Prince of Darkness got his last wish and then departed. It is probably cruel to say at this point but I don't have any love or admiration for the man. He is very lucky to have met Sharon and married her.

I remember as a teenager back in 1971 getting the Paranoid album as a Christmas present, I loved the heaviness of the band and saw them a few times 50+ years ago. Of course, as we grow up we tend to "outgrow" the silliness - I'm not sure Ozzy ever did, or did he stay in just for the money? He's been a mess for decades. I'm sorry that he contracted Parkinsons and passed away but am surprised he lived this long considering his lifestyle. If I was labeled the "Prince of Darkness" I might be a bit concerned about the afterlife. He was however just an imperfect man like us all and was unable to resist the pull of vices and celebrity.

I bought the Paranoid album when it was released and loved it, but outgrew Black Sabbath by the time the second album was released.  I know Ozzy and the group had a long career, but for me personally they were one hit wonders.  But I liked Ozzy even in his later years, sorry to see him go.

My first taste of metal music was Ozzy and BS and haven't looked back.  Nothing on the planet played like them when the band went "online" to the world.   Kudos for their work to introduce and succeed with the new sound.  He was truly a survivor.  Amazing actually.  RIP.

After learning about Ozzy's passing, I could not help but engage in a little self reflection today. With the passing of so many cherished musicians over the years , it certainly emphasizes one's own mortality - and indeed, my road ahead is much shorter than the road I have travelled. These bands were with us during the confusing journey of our teenage years and through sad and joyous times of adult life - they only offered their music and did not demand that we conform to the current social or political flavour du jour.

Rest in peace Ozzy and thanks for your music and memories.

Heard Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” for the first time around 1980. It changed my life! Been listening to it ever since. Thank you Ozzy for all the great music! RIP!🤟 Rock on forever!!!
I saw him live in 1986 with Queensryche during the Ultimate Sin tour.

My first concert was Ozzy with Metallica opening, somewhere in the mid 80's. 86 maybe.? I was about 15 years old. It was during Metallica's Master of Puppets tour. Only saw him once.

Delta77,
Wow! I had tickets for Ozzy with Metallica, but then Ozzy broke his foot and had to reschedule. When I saw him, Queensryche was opening. They were awesome and I saw Metallica in January 1987 on the Master of Puppets tour. Unfortunately Cliff had been killed in that buss accident and Jason had just joined.

We all know Ozzy was quite the character and I hope my little story will spark a smile...
My younger brother had a friend who worked in a recording studio and got to meet some biggies during his time there.
One day he looks up from his stupor and Ozzy is face to face with him. By the way the guy in the story is just a young pup and possibly still a teen or early 20s.

of course he is shocked and says the obligatory shock and awe statement of being a big fan and all that and as he finishes Ozzy just stands there.

No emotion.
No handshake.
No acknowledgment.

Finally after the longest unpleasant and awkward silence imaginable.... {sorry I cant remember the time span! :duh:} at least 20 seconds...
he grabs his hand and shakes it vigorously and greets him in a friendly manner  :o :D

He certainly led and interesting and complicated life!  I don't get too wrapped up in how celebrities choose to live their lives. Some I really admire, some leave me a bit baffled, but mostly I just dig the music or not.  I've been a metalhead since my early teens and Ozzy was a huge part of my formative years.  I wasn't a big fan of his Sabbath work; actually, he's probably my least favorite Sabbath vocalist!  But I was a huge fan of his solo stuff at least up through The Ultimate Sin. It's probably fair to say that without his contributions heavy metal would either not exist or be very different today so pervasive was the influence of Black Sabbath.

I will definitely say that I don't wish Parkinson's on anyone.  One of my best friend's lost his father to the disease a couple years ago.  It was very sad to his decline play out over several years.  From what I read, Ozzy knew he didn't have a lot of time left and opted to quit taking painkillers to be more lucid for his last shows, and reportedly they raised a massive amount of money for charity.  If this is true I'd say that Ozzy's balance sheet includes far more positive than negative, and in many ways the world is better for his having inhabited it.  It will certainly be a little blander without him!  RIP, Ozzy! :guitar: :drums:
