New Preamp Decision
« on: 26 Jun 2025, 04:42 pm »
I've been contemplating a new preamp.

Currently using a Decware CSP-3 as my preamp/headphone amp.

Current system:
Denon-  DP-59L (Turntable)
Decware - (phono pre)
Innuos - Zen (streamer/server)
Holo audio - Spring 3 (DAC and remote Volume control)
Decware CSP-3 - (Preamp) to switch between the Turntable and the DAC, No remote volume control
Deware - Mystery (amp)
Aric Audio - 300B (amp)
Tekton - Double Impact SE (speakers)
ZMF - Auteur (headphones)

I really want a Aric Audio preamp (Super 6SN7), but it's about $4,500. Don't think I can spend that much on a preamp (when I already have one).

In the mean time I have been talking with Apollo Audio, and thinking about trying one of their preamps "Maia" for around $3,000 with upgraded caps.

Has anyone here used or have any experience with Apollo Audio Systems.??

Or any other suggestions to through into the mix.??

Thanks Delta....

I have a Hattor Big preamp that I got used for less than $2000. My unit has the AMRG gold resistors and the New Class D opamp. It's a very well built unit and the remote works flawlessly and it's very functional. In my system, it sounds best in the +9dB setting. Very clean, clear, detailed. Not sterile or analytical at allI can highly recommend this unit.

If you wait a bit you can find a Aric pre used for about 3500

Agreed. There are no gut pics of the Apollo gear and no description of the parts quality. With Aric, you know exactly what you're buying, and the sound quality is exceptional (I'm a previous Aric owner -- I sold the amp to my friend).
