Our Internet access has been down.
« on: Yesterday at 02:32 pm »
We've been without any way to access anything (our server, orders, email....) since middle of the day last Friday. We are just now up and running again and we have hundreds of emails to get to. I am also a little short handing today and the rest of this week. So please be patient with us.

Things are very busy here right now as well. So if anyone is interested in working in this industry and for GR Research on a full time bases then please let me know.

An internet gateway with ISP failover could automatically switch to a second ISP if the connection to the first one goes down.

This may not be relevant to the situation, and the situation could be a one off, but the cost for automatic failover for internet service is not crazy high for a business.

The Unifi gateways have two WAN connections available and software that can switch between them if service on the primary internet connection degrades. https://ca.store.ui.com/ca/en/category/all-cloud-gateways/products/udm-pro-max

A Starlink connection could be setup in 10 minutes to serve as backup.

None of that might be relevant to the issue that GR Research had, but if it was an ISP problem I thought I would mention it.

You can do a failover using PFsense and a PC with multiple Nics for a lot less $. But the Unifi stuff is nice. I use switches and wireless access points from them but PFsense firewall to do all the layer 3 stuff.

If your wanting a simple and cheap solution and have good tmobile coverage in your area, tmobile can sell you a router that can do automatic failover for you. It can be set to use your terrestrial line as the primary connection then use tmobile 5g as the back up. I've worked with a lot of these things and they are very reliable.

In 1990 I asked a friend what he was  going to do with a computer and internet.  In 2025 everything comes to a halt without them.
