Hello: I'm investigating the concept of building my own studio monitors; I'm primarily interested in the "NX Studio" or "the Bulky." Thank-you.

True studio monitors are "active" (low voltage input to crossover which feeds one channel of amplification to each driver and must be plugged into AC wall outlets for power.  They are superior to "passive" (typical consumer designs that get fed high voltage signal(s) to a crude crossover that feeds all drivers).  Active studio monitors are used in virtually all recording and mixing studios.  Prices run from $300/pair (JBL 305 Mk2) up to $15,000/pair (Dutch & Dutch 8C) and are all 2-way designs.

Active monitors have surprisedly deep/powerful bass and accurate midrange/highs.

Welcome!

I built a pair of NX Studios a while back and couldn't be happier.  I utilized the flatpacks for the cabinets which went together fantastic.  The whole process took much longer than anticipated as I work full time and do the speaker building in my garage, so the weather played an important factor.  And I'm meticulous, probably to a fault.

Good luck with your build, whichever you choose.  Please keep us posted - we love following along with a new speaker build.

Oh, if you make a few more posts, you can then use the search function here and find other build threads, even for your models you're considering.
