Maggies .7X Not Available for Demo At Dealers
« on: Yesterday at 03:43 pm »
I have been looking to audition the Magnepan .7X Speakers. It seems no dealers actually carry them for a demo/listen. Some dealers do have the .7 for a listen but not the .7X  At 4000.00, I am not willing to order without first hearing them first. Especially, if they are supposed to be much better.

I have owned the 1.5 Maggies before driven by a Mark Levinson 27.5 amp. Was very happy with them then with the amp. This was many moons ago.

I currently have the Quad 2805 Speaker with the 125wpc Music Reference MK11 amp. They are now having popping noise.  I am considering repairing or going a different route altogether. I have talked to Kent at Electrostatic Solutions on repairing the Quads. Anyone here had any experienced repairing the Quad Speakers through Kent?

Suggestion/ideas on repairing or a different speaker if you have had a Maggie or Electrostatic before.

Thanks

Henry

It's been disheartening to hear so frequently about Quad failures, especially 988/989 and 2805/2905 series.  I sure hope the later 2912 series actually have reliability improvements as claimed  :o

I have enjoyed the Quad 2805 for 13 years. Purchased as demoed from a friend who was a dealer. He made me an offer too good to ignore then. Never played them hard. Seems they all have this issue about this time frame. Unfortunately, the only authorized repair options are quite a distance away (Missouri and New Hampshire) I'm in NC. Still may drive them to Kent at Electrostatic Solutions for repairs. I would not buy another pair.  Would only consider repairing the ones I have if th cost to do so makes sense.
