Hi Everybody that is reading this text.  I am a new guy to AudioCircle;  seeking to learn more about audio in all forms, such as speakers, amplifiers, preamps, dacs, diy, design and repair of audio equipment.

Just starting out?  Suggest looking into active speakers (those that receive a low voltage signal into a DAC/crossover then sends the signals directly to amplifiers (one per driver) for the best sound.  These typically are monitor sized speakers that produce low bass, high dynamics, accurate, and can incorporate room EQ.  Prices range from $89 each (JBL 305 Mk2) to 15,449 Euros (Dutch & Dutch 8C).  The only other component you'd need would be a source (internet server/DAC or turntable/preamp).

I've heard the 305 Mk2 and find them most acceptable, from desktop to a medium sized room.  The 8C are very well respected.  Both are 2-way (woofer/tweeter) designs.  No need for speaker cables.  Just plug them into the wall for power.  I've owned several active speakers and could recommend them all.  Active is what nearly all recording/mixing studios use, although the lower priced ones and studios go for plan jane models (lack DAC/room EQ).

Welcome Goalsetter,

As for me,

When I first joined the forum, I would look at each persons system.
Then run a search on each piece of equipment that looked interesting, or I never heard of.

Hints: A lot of people in the know use tubes in their system.
A high efficient speaker (90 db) or better, is much more desirable than a low efficient (89db) or less.
No need for an amp with more than 50 watts, anything over 50 watts is a waste of energy/heat.

Just a couple of things I've picked up over the years of being here on Audiocircle.
