DFW RM40 Audition??
« on: 22 May 2005, 12:00 am »
I am currently considering a pair of RM 40's, but would like to know if anyone in the Ft Worth side of town may have a pair and would be kind enough to accomodate maybe an hours worth of auditioning? And of course, give me your own perspective. I would be willing to travel all over DFW, but since I live in N Ft Worth, its a matter of convenience! If you are open to this idea, please post a response here or PM me. Thanks for your consideration! Mark

Thanks for the reminder! I was also going to post there, but got distracted, and totally forgot the moment of thought I had to remind me to do so! (I am on vacation in Louisiana) Either way, I may get enough exposure to this request, that I may have an opportunity to get a chance to audition them! Thanks again! Mark

I have a couple clients in the Houston area, but they bought their RM40s well before the FST and MLS cabinets so you wouldn't hear the "latest and greatest.

Look here for a 626R owner w/ LARGER sub, who could give you a "taste" of the VMPS sound, but without the "power" of the rm40.

Thanks John.....I have been fortunate enough to hear the Super Tower/R SE w/ the upgraded mids & newer  woofers. I currently own some large speakers, but want to see if there is a difference valid enough for me to go for the RM40's....

I have owned the Focus and the Signature IIIs and both are great speakers.  I think in comparing them to the VMPS ribbons (RM40/RM30) you would find a couple areas of difference.

I think you would find the ribbons will have a more focused dispersion which will give clearer more detailed imaging, and the bass damping putty system will allow you to adjust the bass damping for a little more flexibility in placement and equipment.

Additionally, the L-pad adjustment will also allow you to "custom design" a "sonic signature" that may meet your listening preferences, as well as allow you to "balance" an unbalanced listening environment to a small degree.

Bill makes some great products and I was a Legacy dealer for a few years.  You may find "pricing differences" slightly favorable to VMPS, but that may depend on specific options and upgrades you select.

Ultimately, I would say that if you are a "serious, in the sweet spot" listener, they are a speaker worth looking at. (er...hearing  )
