Bryston BP17 cubed
« on: 5 Apr 2025, 04:18 pm »
Good Day:

I own a BR-20 and run both xlr outs one to my 4b SSTC the other to a sub which James Tanner said was alright as long as you don’t mix outputs.

A friend has good DAC/ streamer already so is interested in BP17 cubed.
Would do same use XLR to Bryston 4b sst2  the other xlr output pair to his sub.
So if that can be confirmed? He also has home theater so would use in home theater bypass with his Marantz preamp (also xlr).

So both our subs have left and right XLR input. BP19 is out because no home theater bypass.

Thanks
Back to the music ;-)

Dear James,

Could you please provide more information about HTB on BP19? This is the feature that kept me from going for it, as it would go in the heart of a dual use stereo/music-surround/movie setup.
Neither the BP19 product page nor any manual version (that I could find) provide any information on this topic.

1. Which firmware makes this feature available? Is it "BP19_GDBCON_B81_signed.bin", the latest currently downloadable from https://support.bryston.com/downloads/BP19/Firmware/?
2. How can home theatre bypass be enabled? Withh the remote, from the web interface, etc.?
3. Can HTB be input-specific? E.g. automatically active only when Balanced 2 is selected?
4. On how many inputs can HTB be enabled?
5. When switching to a variable (non-HTB) input from an HTBed input, is the volume level on the variable input kept? E.g. listening on Balanced 1 at  -30dB -> switch to Balanced 2 (HTB / unity gain, I presume) -> switch back to Balanced 1: is Balanced 1 still at -30dB?

Also related:
6. Can the 12V trigger in be used to automatically turn on the BP19 and select a specific (HTB-enabled) input? Scenario: 12V Trigger OUT on the AVR conencted to the 12V Trigger IN on the BP19.

Thank you,
Alexandru
