New website up and running for Wendell Diller's MaggieBASS open baffle sub system using Danville Signal DSP processing.

https://www.maggiebass.com/

The system is being demoed with the dspNexus 2/8 DSP processor with the upgraded AK4499EX DACs with moded Magnepan 1.7i's for a fully active system.

HAL is involved with the DSP crossover design for the system.   :D

Good deal.
This should be interesting, I think my 3.7s could benefit from this one.

The new name for the product is PlanarBASS.

This is bass for planars.

Yes, they look very nice.  I would think that my LRS's and 3.6R's would both benefit with these in the system.

From the link above, I see:

"For PlanarBASS™ to be successful requires the ‘integration recipe’ implemented in its most advanced form by way of DSP."

and

"The PlanarBASS™ integration system is incorporated exclusively within Danville's DSP to form a system approach to more and better bass."

If I might ask, in addition to the bass units themselves, what other hardware, software, cables and anything else would be necessary to complete the system? And a ballpark estimate of what costs we might be looking at?

I know, it says more information coming, but this is of great interest to me (and I assume others) who have had a hard time getting subs to blend right with Maggies.

Thanks in advance for any additional information.

I have asked Danville Signal and PlanarBASS to post options for the systems.

Yup, I need these. I like that they’re compact and can be powered from the same multichannel amp as the other speaker without a separate plate amp.

The name is confusing since it doesn’t use planar drivers.  It seems they mean it’s designed to work with planar speakers (ie Magnepan), but I bet many don’t interpret it that way from the name (I’m not the only one that finds the name confusing).

I’m sure they are a great addition for Maggies, albeit a pricey one.

PS - I just learned Wendall retired from Magnepan and is doing this via his own company.  Is this old news?

At the show Wendell stated he retired late last year from Magnepan.

PlanarBASS is the new product from his company.  It was originally called MaggieBASS.

Wendell resigned from Magnepan in November after over 50 years with the company.

Wendell believes that open baffle woofers are the appropriate choice for planar style full range speakers like the Maggies. This also includes open baffle woofers from VPE, GR and others.
The name reflects this belief. It is the application, not a description of of the woofer technology.

PlanarBASS does not include crossovers and is only supported by Danville DSP crossovers. This is Wendell's choice as voiced in Jason's video.

PlanarBASS is entirely Wendell's company. Hollis Labs and Danville are happy to lend our support. We do this with many other companies as well.
