Shifting Gears
« on: 20 Mar 2025, 02:54 am »
Hi Y’all, I’m a new member and rekindling my love for the audio hobby. I had to give up my auto racing hobby due to age. I’m a long time music lover so with the money I’m saving not spending it on race car stuff, I’m upgrading my system. I started with some Magnepan LRS speakers with Schiit Vidar amplification and it sounds pretty good but I want to bump it to the next level. The front end of the system is a Shanling transport with a Pontus 15th dac. I feel I need more amp to get the most out of the Maggie’s so I’m upgrading. I’m retired and on a budget so I’m looking for incremental affordable improvements. I came across a used Odyssey Stratos Extreme amp needing some work (it won’t start up) but it looked like it was new, pretty solid and a very well constructed unit for a very fair price. So it begins. I’m going to reach out to Odyssey to see if they can resurrect this amp.

I'm using a Pontus 12th with an Odyssey Stratos Extreme.  Along with my GR Research NX-Studios (and SVS sub) it's very warm and full.  Sounds great.

You can usually reach Klaus at Odyssey by phone in the evenings.

Welcome.

Welcome from a fellow Maggie owner- 1.6's and original MMG's.  I run my 1.6's with a Pass Labs X250 amp and a BAT VK51se tube preamp along with a Luxman DA-06 DAC.  I am also into vinyl having just upgraded my TT.
