Has anybody used these amps before?

http://www.acoustic-reality.com/

I am pulling my Innersound amp out of my chain to use on a pair of Soundlab speakers and need something to drive the woofers on VMPS RM40's.  I would appreciate any feed back, especially concerning their performance on low end.

Tha amps are fine amps, wish I could say the same for the dealer/manufacturer.

If it were my money, I would look elsewhere.

I've read great things about their sound, but gave up my interest when I got scared off by several horror stories related to service...FWIW

What a shame -- maybe they could use a US dealer.  What would be a good amp to drive the 4 woofers?

AV Reality had one, in fact the best one they could have hoped for, but alas, they had a parting of the ways do to the bi-polar like personality of Peter Thomsen(sp?), the owner of AV Reality.

It should be noted that I was with Peter for a 24 hour period in 2002 and we had a wonderful time.

It should also be noted that my opinion is based on the stories I have heard from owners of the amps, the former US Distributor, and the postings by Peter himself, on HD and here, and not from personnaly owning the amp(s)

I remember some of Peter's old posts. They were always entertaining if nothing else. I just took a look at his website to see what he was up to. those Diamon Butterfly speakers sure look interesting. Anyone seen anything about these?

There are some threads that I mention in a post on page 2 of the above link that you should read to get a more complete picture.....

I own 2 eartwo power amps I used to be very happy with them, but at the moment I've send several emails to acoustic reality about a service request and they have never answered my emails(first mail is form almost 2 month ago).
His amps sounds great but his after sales service sucks.

The Odyssey amps would work well, but a more cost effective solution might be a used Crown K2.

These amps come with a 3 year no questions asked warranty, have no fan, are virtually indestructable and do a very nice job on subs.

The thing is I am triamping and already have a K2 driving a larger (2nd one on the way) from 50Hz down.  I run the woofers on RM40's between 50 Hz and ~300Hz. With the Neos highpassing higher, I want more "musical" amp than K2 for midbass woofer.  I have a CJ MF200 as back up for now but I will have to get something soon since Innersound amp is being pulled this weekend.

well then a stratos might fit the bill  i bought the monos for sub duty because i wanted a musical sub,not a pure thumper that plays one note

If this post was agaisnt the rules becuase it is commercial in nature, please feel free to move it to the appropriate section. I am not quite sure how to approach this situation but wanted to post the option....

Ryan,

yup, it's against the rules and I'm sure a facilitator will move it soon.

Why don't you post about your new amp in the Market Square section?

I would hope that the moderators will not let this sort of thing stand. Otherwise, it is open season for someone like me to stick my big fat Italian nose into every thread even remotely associated with this sort of product. Of course, I may have to change my name to P**-A******.

And my nose is rather prodigious..........

This sort of posting gratuitous adverts is what DIYAudio has become famous for. I hope the same fate does not befall this forum.

I composed a long masterpiece of a reply an hour ago, but the site froze and I lost it! :(

Here is the short version.

I ended up going against some public and private feedbacks and pulled the trigger on the amps.  Marbles, thanks for an entertaining read on harmonic discord.  It was aptly named.

I blame Wayne for teasing me with his Jazz amp trial then pulling it back, ala Lucy.

Ryan, good luck with yours -- 1 day late for me.

Thanks Rosconey on the Stratos suggestion but I already drank from the cup of ICEpower.  Poison or elixier?

4 reasons why I did it.

1. Price even with $145 shipping and wiring cost is WAY below any using 1001 ICEpower module such as H2O, Jazz and JR.

2. No negativity concerning the amp itself.

3. Some indication that these may be good on electrostatic loads (on Soundlab A5's)

4. ICEpower may become pupular and cottage industry that will service and mod this may arise, thereby providing an alternative to sending them back to Denmark for repairs if needed.

I will post updates on my eAR1001 buying/using experience periodically.

I would hazard a guess that either Wayne or Vinnie would poke around under the hood, should you desire modification... both have been excellent to me!

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

The amps are flying over the Atlantic as write this.  Peter has been very good with e-mail replies.  I sure hope they are good with the woofs because my backup is a LOT boomy.  It's funny that I didn't notice this before.  Acoustic appreciation must be like wine tasting.  You keep getting spoiled by finer presentations to the point where you become an apparent snob without meaning to.  I want my untrained ears back!  :bawl:
