Let there be light....
« on: 5 Mar 2025, 09:42 am »
Just picked the little (27kg) amp up. Music Angel XD-MkIII, EL34, parallel push-pull - 75w in pentode mode amd 35w in Triode mode. Or so i believe. There appears to be several versions of this amp. Will pull it apart on the weekend and see which components need replacing... Step up from the Reisong A10(Skunkie mods) it replaced..
Anyone have experience with this amp, particularly this model - with 8 x EL34's (or in my case KT77's).

?

Lol.  :thumb: Looks like a fun new piece of kit. Looking it up, it seems there are several mod recommendations if you chose to get rowdy with a soldering iron.
In modding my Jolida, big improvements were in rca and speaker connectors from KLE and are a simple mod. Slightly more intrusive but equally nice improvement was signal path caps and hexfred diodes. Could make for a fun weekend of tinkering and sonic improvement.

Also you mentioned GL KT77 in there, but what are you running for front end tubes?

I'm looking forward to playing around with it.  I did the skunkie mods on my Reisong A10 and it was an amazing difference. Unfortunately there were several different versions of this amp, so finding the correct schematic is difficult...

Anyway, I don't recognise the driver tubes, except they are 6N1's (see image). Would love to try NOs 6N1P's from the Ukraine and maybe some 12AT7 GL's ' had great results with 12AX7's on the A10 and in my preamp.

This is precisely my case.
I live in a hot area and can power on the tube amp only in the winter.
It was not a smart decision on my part buy a tube amp that reach 200*C
in a few minutes   A cheap Class D would had serve me better.
