NX Studio OK for RV
« on: 21 Feb 2025, 07:08 pm »
Full time RV living, rebuilt end of RV to fit desk and audio/video setup. Lifelong DIY builder looking for best speakers for money I can do for this RV.

Space is 8 ft wide and high and around 24 ft long but furniture, kitchen island, in the middle, etc but 10 ft to couch that faces speakers that are at rear wall. At other end there is a 28" opening into bed and bath areas, total length of RV is 41ft.

Speakers to be at rear wall, only around 8-9 inches from sidewalls which will be treated the best I can do.

They will be able to moved at least 26"  from rear wall, a bit further for critical listening, up to 32" or so.

My main concern is the rear output from the tweeters, it till be facing 8" deep bookshelves with various things in them, subs below the shelves and behind the speakers, big window with wood blinds, 5 ft wide, 4.5 tall.

The Encore might be an easier speaker to use in our situation but we prefer the tweeters and overall looks of the Studio speakers, especially in walnut.

Advice much appreciated, thanks!
Rick

I have done a bunch of firsts it seems in this RV which was a 39 ft super heavy triple axle that is now 41.5 ft long and does not look much like a 5th wheel anymore:)

I am also looking into TL, MLTL, etc 2-way designs, it would be nice to not have subs if I can get a fairly compact setup to play decently low.

The NX Studios are great. I love them. But they are a bit on the large side. If these are speakers you see yourself moving around a lot you may want to consider the new NX Bravos. They look to be significantly smaller than the studios but have the same tweeter.

Studio's will be fine, especially if you can get a sub to fill in the very bottom end.

RAAM, my wife and I did two years living on the road in a 40' Monaco. I think you will tire very quickly of setting them and then breaking them down to pack for the trip between places, unless you stay months at a place versus weeks. We did do a fair amount of going from place to place, stay a week or two in most cases, then off to the next place. I opted for a small pair of powered computer speakers for both price and convenience. Also, the risk of damage and just the constant driving vibration will take its toll on them.

Just my $.02,
JCarney

Thanks,
I have room for them and do not mind the size, they would be on stands or have custom subs under them. We are long term in the space we parked in when swapping to this RV we bought to completely rebuild and fell in love with the area so just keeping this one here but with a lot of work it can be moved if ever needed. We bought a 59 Boles Aero 21' trailer to restore after this one for travel and keep this big one here, just no where else we want our home base, beautiful, peaceful, amazing mountain views, low crime, lots of wildlife...

The NX-3 Bravo tower is interesting but not very cool looking like the Studio. I wonder what the lower range is since the posted response graph cuts off at 200hz, it should be far lower and if down to 35 or 40 might be fine without a sub.

Anything will do great. I'd look at the little desktop mini with a sub you can adjust. Encores by themselves will have bass a plenty.

Not a lot of room in those RVs and lots of reflective surfaces.

I have already used some little KEF line arrays and a 1kw high end 12" sub in this and our last RV but I want something bigger to look at, and listen to and have some nice wood on it, etc...I will update the architect program i am using for the whole RV project and post a pic or two.

I have some very old but outstanding sounding, upgraded of course, ADS aluminum enclosure two ways made for car audio, bought them in 1982 for $12 used, was offered $500 back then but kept them. I might put them on the desk and use them when not wanting the bigger system on.

Thanks for everyone's inputs, much appreciated:)
