KHARTAGO AMPLIFIERS AND MAGNEPAN 1.7X
« on: 18 Feb 2025, 09:32 pm »
Hi, Folks. I was wondering if someone in the CIRCLE try this combo. I have a pair of LRS+ drove by an old MC2155, and the combination is superb, but my old friend get tired yesterday (left channel out) and needs a replacement, so a pair of Khartago MONO may be a good replacement.
I read a lot of good reviews of the combination, but I want to know your kindly opinions

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Hello @machsw!

I had a pair of the 1.6’s paired with Stratos monos. I think Khartagos are more commonly paired with the smaller Maggies.
I thought the combination was amazing, and I had purchased the Stratos specifically for my Maggies. Unfortunately, my room simply didn’t have the space necessary to accommodate the Magnepans and they were never able to perform as well as they could. I sold the Magnepans, but I still have my Stratos’!!
The amp that is created for you will be specifically for you and for your speakers. This is not a “one size fits all” product. I have to imagine that you would be very happy, especially with the monos.

Call Klaus and ask him! No one would be better able to tell you how well it would work, and which, if any, upgrades would be most useful. I have a Khartago Stereo SE Extreme, at about 130wpc, and I can't imagine you'd be disappointed in a pair of Monos!

I do not know much about those amps but I know maggies well and own 2 pair for at least the last 25 years.  Besides high power, the maggies need high current and high capacitance to sound their very best.  Also, the amps must be stable down to 2 ohms.  I use a Pass X250 amp which is high current, very high capacitance and high watts at 500 wpc. The Maggies I use are the 1.6's.  I also own an original pair of MMG's. I used to use a Parasound A21 and the Pass makes the A21 sound midfi, especially at loud levels.  Maggies do not really use all that much power.  The Pass amps have a meter on the front that tells you when it is leaving Class A which is about 15 watts per channel.  The only time that I have seen the needle on the meter move is when I was playing the music very loud and the music was bass heavy. So that tells me that I rarely use more than 15 watts per channel..

I don't know if this helps or not but it is something to discuss with Klaus.

Thank you. I use to drive my LRS+ with my old mcintosh mc2155, it also have watts meters in front, and as you say rarely pass 15 watts of power in high volume or dinamic passages or heavy bass.
