New to the site and I am located in Lebanon Tn.  I've been recording individuals and groups since the early 1970s and things sure have changed.  I'm here t explore new equipment testing and new Studio Monitor tests. Our studio projects focus on Acoustic style programs and I've found over the years Mics, Pre-amps and Monitors make the sound.  I have been using a variety of monitors through the years but I keep coming back to my Yamaha NS40m which I purchased around 1995 and still love them.   Anyone else use them.   I figured I had some time and I want to do some more detailed testing on the speakers...I know the room plays in to the sound but I am interested in testing the individual monitors to see if they are still performing to spec.   I drive them with a Bryston 4bcubed amp.    Any other studio owners on here?

  • The elephant normally IS the room
Have found active monitors to be superior to passive speakers.  Owned JBL 305, Dynaudio BM5Mk3, JBL 708P, and Buchardt A500SE in terms of overall accuracy and depth of bass.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.
